Title: Modern Mdina
Post by: adam20 on May 06, 2011, 11:12:18 AM
Am I right in saying you can tell old from new Mdina a fair bit from the script on the base - the older stuff seems to be wide and scrolling the newer stuff very tight and complete

As with two newer pieces seen below one is actually dated

Thanks Adam

I'd say these were both "later" scripts - but it's a horribly confusing sort of thing to go by!

I did, at one time try to sort out a whole load of different scripts, but by the time I got to 25 of them, decided that looking at the actual glass was a better way of doing things - and even then, it's a matter of "do I like it or not".

The "silver and black" design is a post Harris one, it's been around for a long, long time and I like it.

As Sue says definitely a tricky subject, it's generally best to hedge your bets but engraved dates do help a lot. ;D

Consider the script, colourway and subtleties of the shape for a guesstimate. Mark Hill's book on Michael Harris is invaluable but it does not cover any of the more recent production at Mdina (not surprisingly).
