Hi,
Hoping someone could help shed some light on this small iridescent vase. Looks to be a studio piece, although I may be wrong.
Measures just under 4 inches tall and has a smooth polished base. The surface to the bottom half is slightly raised, where the glass has been trailed. From a distance i thought it may be John Ditchfield, although on closer inspection, I'm fairly sure its not.
After looking at the base several times, there appears to be some kind of signature (although not completely convinced its not just surface scratches, that look like a signature). Looked a little like Peter Layton, although not completely accurate!
Fairly sure its a contemporary piece and studio glass, but other that that I'm inconclusive.
All thoughts greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg

Thanks Rose, I've got a few bits of Layton, although it doesn't seem to match completely. Just hoping the marks are a signature, seem fairly hard to work out!
Thanks Greg :)

It deoesn't look like any signature to me - but my eyesight ain't wot it used to be!
I can see why you thought Ditchfield then dismissed him - but what about Lazlo?

Thanks Sue, I'll certainly have a look into Lazlo, had a brief look into Kris Heaton. I see Kris Heaton had an apprenticeship under Lazlo and Ditchfield.
Thanks again for your thoughts.

Brief update, got a reply from Kris Heaton at Neo glass:
Hi Greg
Its not a piece of Neo art glass and think if it had been Ditchfield it would of been signed maybe Lazlo not sure though.
Regards
Kris
Sue: I had a look into Lazlo earlier, I noticed an old thread on the GMB from 2006, I see Lazlo retired due to ill health, both websites are sadly no longer running.
I'll do a bit more digging into Lazlo, info on the web seems a bit thin on the ground.
Thanks,
Greg

Greg, I'm very interested to see what you come up with as this reminds me of an iridescent lampshade I put on herea while ago. The pulls on your vase seem to stand proud from the vase? They don't on my lampshade. And does the vase have dark grey speckles towards the neck?

Hi M,
Yep, the pulls on the vase do stand proud of the main body, in that respect it seemed very similar to the Lava vases that Ditchfied and others have produced, which drew me to it originally. The vase does have speckles of iridescent colour on the side around the top rim, kind of a darkish purple in colour.
I'll see where the Lazlo road takes me, certainly let you know if anything comes up.
Thanks,
Greg

Greg, my lamp shade is here
- it was the colours of yours and the texture of the surface in close up that looked very similar to me.

Does the inside of the neck look as though it has been ground at all?

Hi Mike, looking at the inside of the neck, there doesn't appear to be any noticeable signs that it has been ground....the finish inside the neck is the same as around the whole of the upper body of the vase, with a smooth iridescent finish, no other signs at all..?
Thanks, Greg
