Title: Clouded glass rose bowl
Post by: vanmann on May 13, 2011, 06:28:40 PM
I bought these two rose or flower bowls today and am now wondering if they have any real age to them. One is in marbled purple clouded glass and the other is in a clouded blue glass. Both have similar colour but clear ie. not clouded frogs. All suggestions welcome

I think that they are from the same maker as the decoration  around the base is identical. Thanks for you very speedy response

Have a look thorough here http://www.cloudglass.com/
The purple one is cloud glass; the other is just frosted (and it looks badly watermarked). Neither are rose bowls; rose bowls curve in at the top and do not curve out again. Those are flower sets.

Cannot find exact pattern but having checked underside of flower blocks the purple one has MADE IN ENGLAND impressed and blue one has same plus Pat no 382699 so am assuming that they are in fact Davidsons.Incidentally the blue one is not clouded but opalescent I think as it is just a plain colour rather than marbled. Thanks for suggestions

Sorry Christine I reposted without reading all your post, just went straight to link. Thanks for confirmation on clouded and frosted. The mark on the blue was just some surface grime which I hadn't got round to washing off. Have now done so and attach new photo. Thanks again

That looks to be exactly what they are Christine. Thanks again. The site's section on flower blocks seemed to suggest that those with the Patent no 382699 were made after 1931, so was the frosted finish produced later than the clouded?

The clouded sets were made until the 1960s, so who knows
