Hello Messageboard
As this is my first post I hope you can help. As an enthusiastic collector of glass Id like to find out more about a piece I have
I have a hand blown bottle / decanter with a large stamp on it with the words "Old Sarum" on it with what looks like a bird above it.
I have done the usual search and come up with a blank
Any clues ? advice ? or info telling me more about it?
Thank you in advance
Ashley

Sarum is the old name for Salisbury, there is still an area of Salisbury that is called Old Sarum, I remember seeing an historical re-enactment of a battle there one Bank Holiday, (the sort where everyone dresses up in costumes and fire muskets and pretend to kill each other!) So this may be somewhere to start.

Hello Bubbles
Apologies for the delay in replying, id fogotten my password Doh!
Many many thanks for your help.
I have a feeling that the piece I have is active under UV, so the mystery has taken a new direction.
Im sure I'll come across a manufacturer or something soon
Kind Regards
Ashley

Clear glass that has a yellowish glow under UV contains manganese, which was used for a very long while as a decoloriser until it was mostly superseded by cheaper chemicals in the second half of the 20th century.
The bottle doesn't look particularly old. Can we have a base pictures please
