Title: Blue Glass Cup or Vase

I’ve come across this Blue Glass Cup or Vase, and have not been able to get any definitive in-formation about it. I’m hoping someone can tell me something about it.
Looking at it, and in most pictures it appears to be opaque, but held to the light it is quite trans-parent

It is 4”h x 3¼“w, and has a very large pontil mark (almost the width of the base).

I hope you can tell something from the attached pictures (the color on the right side is most ac-curate).

It looks like a lilac vase of a model which was very popular around the middle of the 19th century - but it may be more recent. The colour is more 20th ct.   I'd like to see a picture of the pontil mark "the width of the base" which would be most unusual. It will tell us better how it was made, when and (possibly) by whom.

Ah that explains it. It was not taken up on a pontil rod but on a blowpipe. Here is a photo of two "jasmin vases" (not lilac, how dare I) from around 1860 made in Belgium (Louis Zoude) and/ or in France (Nancy region). The one on the right has a similar opacity obtained by zinc oxide which is 'struck' to opaque in the oven. There seem to be quite a number of models, but yours is the first one I see which is totally smooth. Colours known are Cobalt, cobalt to opaque light blue, and white.  These vases even if they count as early pressed glass have pontil marks because taking glass items out of the mould was quite difficult, and often a pontil or blowpipe was used to remove the finished article.

Perhaps someone else will have something to say. Pamela, are you there?
