8 inches high,polished pontil mark,the dealer thought WF's I think maybe Webb or Stuart any other options? ;D ;D :huh:
-
nice piece Keith - controlled bubbles then, or a bit random, I can't quite make out.
-
Paul;controlled but not that well,you could say ::) ;D
-
With such neat controlled bubbles I would not discount a Scandinavian maker - although many would have markings, some do not.

Over the years I have had a number of items with this technique. I still have a couple in store in crates that contain other items of Thomas Webb. NOT because I know that they are by Webb, rather that I have always associated them with that company, by style and quality, etc..
To date there has been no 'official' recognition through information published, or through my own research. Although to be fair I haven't done as much on them as other factories.

Thanks Ross,Nigel,one to ponder over ;D ::)

However, I think you did a tad better than I did Keith ;) http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,40077.msg221750.html#msg221750

Knew I'd seen something similar recently ::)

Hello Keith - just had a look in Dodsworth's 'British Glass between the wars' - page 47 showing four examples of Webb's larger vases - and they all seem to share a common foot shape, which is a lot different to yours. Also, the blue example shown in the book, appears (although screens can play havoc with colours) to be less blue than yours. Just some random thoughts, but you may care to look at the book yourself.
-
Thanks Paul,only had the book a couple of weeks,I see what you mean the foot clearly different and the blue is deeper very much like a WF's piece I have although from this pic' it's difficult to tell,maybe Scandi' could be an avenue worth looking down?

Paul,
Firstly, it's always a good idea to check the size of a vase when you refer to it, or them, as four examples of Webb's larger vases
I really don't consider 5 1/2" to 7" high large - if it is, then I own a number of monumental pieces ;) :)
Secondly, do you really think that four examples of one manufacturer's work is representative of the vast amount produced by one company - therefore making that the touch stone to use for the feet that they produced? :spls:

Nigel; not discounting any maker at the moment just considering other possibilities,always worth looking around,looking for one thing has,a couple of times,helped me in the attribution of a previous unknown piece and I enjoy the search,sometimes ::)

thanks for your input Nigel - always a treat to have expert advice :) I really do appreciate your comments, and I'd be the first to condemn people who generalise - and I did say 'just random thoughts' - so hope you will forgive my less than accurate comment - I'm trying to improve (even if I can't spell sapphire). In view of your knowledge, particularly of British and of the period in question, do you recall seeing a foot similar to Keith's shape on any pieces of known Webb's production. Speaking from experience, I can say only that, with a couple of exceptions, all of my Webb's vases (those that do have feet) - have this flange shaped foot, similar to the Dodsworth examples (the exceptions being a uranium finger type bowl and a blue rinsing bowl). Obviously, I don't possess a large collection - something like 15 bowls/vases at the last count.
