Title: Apologies for raising this one again..Is it or not a 'Gulvvase'?
Post by: flying free on May 22, 2011, 07:53:38 PM
I have done as much searching as I can, including reading all the threads I can find in here and I am still in two minds... I think it 'looks' right proportionately, but I'm not sure it measures right if you know what I mean?  Also it is clear turquoise albeit a kind of classy turquoise imho, so is it a Cascade Gulvvase or .....actually what is it please.  I have a turquoise Cascade pig and this vase is definitely just a shade greener and more classy than that turquoise as far as I am concerned.
Measurements are
height 25.5cm
rim width 7.25cm
width at base 9cm
height to top of shoulders approx 14cm
height from shoulders to top of rim 11.5cm
weight approx 380gms ish (my scales aren't working properly at the mo sorry)

Mould blown, neat smooth base, mould dimply type marks in the middle of the base.

thanks so much
m

I think there was a thread on a forum a few years back on these vases and someone said there was a lookalike being sold in one of the big American stores , it may have been on our GMB .

Thread here on colours and sizes and other information.
Mine is 10" but in Turquoise, so what I'm asking is if it is in fact a Cascade licensed produced vase?

Bumping a very old thread here, but I have one in the same colour and size as the one in the first post.
Did you ever establish whether it was Holmegaard, Cascade under licence to Holmegaard or something else?

chasdevlin, mine sold easily but I can't remember the details.

There is more info on this thread here:
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,7233.msg204180.html#msg204180

The one on that thread with a Cascade label iirc had a slightly upturned rim.  Mine had no upturned rim, it was  flat as usually found on Gulvase.

That's not very helpful to be honest so apologies  :-[

IThanks I did read that thread. I was asking if you ever got an answer to your question, it sounds as if you didn't.
I think I'm going to assume it was made by Cascade under licence from Holmegaard.

To my mind it is a bit academic, as long as it was made with Holmegaard's consent and to the correct design what difference does it make which factory it was made in? There were various factories within the Holmegaard group anyway.

Thanks John. That's put my mind at rest.

John I think for me it was more about knocking out the thought that it could have been designed and produced more recently i.e. 2000s.

There are lots of Scandinavian looking vases being produced now and in more recent years in great quantities it seems, that I think could be confused for items produced in the 60/70s for example.

So I think my quest was more about reassuring myself it wasn't some recent production to be honest.

Fair enough, there are a few similar much more recent designs but they don't have exactly the same proportions, with some the necks have quite a different shape too. When you handle them there are more subtle differences too.
