Title: Small facet cut vase, clear and green -- Czech?
Post by: rocco on May 28, 2011, 12:45:06 PM
Nice small facet-cut vase for ID!
Width 12,5 cm, height 7 cm, compressed rhomboid shape with flattened front and back, clear and green glass. Bottom and rim (out- and inside) with bevelled edges.

Looks very Czech to me, but I may be wrong...

Thanks for any comments!
Michael

Probably Moser or Desna.

Thank you very much, Ivo!!

I thought of Jablonecké sklárny (now Desna) as well, for instance Václav Plátek: http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/VaclavPlatekGlasrevue19611983?authkey=Gv1sRgCKauyPLE7InulgE#5485447890328137490 (http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/VaclavPlatekGlasrevue19611983?authkey=Gv1sRgCKauyPLE7InulgE#5485447890328137490)
But I am not sure if they produced multicolour pieces?

I don't know if the glass qualitiy is good enough for Moser; there are some tiny air bubbles visible; on the other hand the cutting is beautiful...

I forgot to mention that the base shows a lot of wear (visible in the pic as well); so I think the vase has some age to it.

Any Czechsperts around to help me further with this nice vase? :)

After looking through hundreds of CGR issues I am still not much wiser...

Some observations, though:
there are vases designed by Jan Kotik with very similar cutting and shape, and the same green edges - but a red core; here is one: http://www.sypka.cz/vaza/a46/d10524 (http://www.sypka.cz/vaza/a46/d10524); another one on ebay (wrongly attributed to Pavel Hlava): http://cgi.ebay.de/PAVEL-HLAVA-VASENOBJEKT-BORSKE-SKLO-50er-60er-JAHRE-/130528479500?pt=Glas_Kristall&hash=item1e641a890c (http://cgi.ebay.de/PAVEL-HLAVA-VASENOBJEKT-BORSKE-SKLO-50er-60er-JAHRE-/130528479500?pt=Glas_Kristall&hash=item1e641a890c)

Another thought: Antonin Drobnik designed some 2-coloured cut pieces for ZBS... http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/Glasrevue19639?authkey=Gv1sRgCLWt5LidzZzBUQ#5441897179252086466 (http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/Glasrevue19639?authkey=Gv1sRgCLWt5LidzZzBUQ#5441897179252086466)

Any further input greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,

although this is an old thread, I was very happy to see these pictures! And disappointed to learn that you did not succeed to identify this piece. All this why? because I have the same piece! only mine is with yellow coloring, and not green. The only additional info I can provide is that I bought it in the Czech Republic about two years ago, in shop a along the road from Novy Bor to Zelezny Brod... The shop label on the piece said just " Kotik? " .... so not much help here.
Still, if in the meantime you learned some more about it, I'll be very happy to hear it too.

BTW, I love your collection! it makes me envy any time i browse through it...

Hi Assaf,
great that you brought some life into my old ID thread with your beautiful vase!
Unfortunately I am not any wiser than 4 years ago...
At least we can be sure now that it is a Czech piece.

Interesting that the seller also brought up the name "Jan Kotik", as that was my first thought...

And thanks for the nice words reg. my collecion :)

Thanks Michael,
:-\    I was hoping... I still hope more info will be shared here someday.

Regarding the hunch about Jan Kotik, I guess it is natural, as cutting has much resemblance to pieces like this
http://www.czech100.com/?lang=en&page=icons&id=38
and this
http://www.living.cz/galerie/dekorace-sklo-soliter/1.html#content
or no. 55 on the first Sypka auction (22/11/2009)

If you learn something more about that jemstone, I'd love to hear! I promise to share if I find anything.
