Title: Is this a Kralik ?
Post by: glass-shelf on May 28, 2011, 04:37:09 PM
I suppose this vase could have been made by Kralik. Can anybody confirm or contradict ?
Am i right with the idea that it has been done round 1920 ?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Have a look on the base and look for a tiny J & Z interlinked as it looks like it might be Jan Zeeman.

Have checked the base again, there is no mark visable, so very unlikely Jan Seemann, i conclude.

Is the rim ground and polished?

Also, some pics in natural light may help, as the colors, at least in these pics do not look quite right for a Kralik piece....

Thanks Craig !
Here comes more pictures that might help.
The colour is more into green, the pictures are little too yellow.

Although it bears a resemblance to a Kralik decor, I do not believe this is a Kralik piece. The piece does not seem quite right. Although I think it is older than the piece in the link, I am not sure who it is....  I would likely lean towards a more contemporary piece, even though the bottom appears to show some wear....

The Kralik pieces have a much more iridescent surface treatment, and the primary color of the body, combined with the color of
the blue are not quite right. Additionally, I could not find any examples of the decor with a line pattern such as this.....

I have attached a couple of variations of the Kralik decor for comparison.....

Craig,
thanks a lot !
As i never owned a Kralik piece, i do not know how it looks like. How do the top rim look like and have Kralik pieses a polished pontil ? Probably you could send pictures of top rim and bottom of the first vase, this blue-yellow one ?!
These chinese ones look diferent i think, somehow more new.

Have a look  here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150520808163&clk_rvr_id=237245575472)
I am convinved its still a Jan Zeman piece that has not been signed.

Kralik production varies and some pieces have polished pontil marks and some do not.....  Not really any method to it... more dependent on the piece, the shape and the finish or applied details...... A large percentage of Kralik production has no pontil mark. The later you get in their production, the less common a Pontil mark is... Here are some images of a piece in my collection showing rim and base and some detail.... This piece would date to around 1900-1910.

I think I agree with Mike...... yours is a Zeman piece.....

Thanks a lot to you all !!!
With the last given pictures i think i now have an idea about the differences of these pieces. All, the pattern, the surface, the colour looks little different. The hole impression is little different to the Kralik's. The look-and-feel, the graze is missing at my one somehow.
Will go for the Jan Zeeman attribution untill further notice and will check out his pieces....
thanks again,
Tom
