Title: Azure ashtray -- Czech?
Post by: Anik R on May 29, 2011, 08:09:20 AM
Hi,

When I bought this ashtray this morning, I felt confident it was Czech.  But after searching through my favourite books and websites, I came to the conclusion that I'm simply confused.  Though the design looks terribly familiar, I can't seem to find it anywhere.  Does anyone recognise it?

The ashtray is a rather loud azure (perhaps a bit odd for Czech?) and measures 14cm wide by 5cm high.  It weighs 962g.

All thoughts welcome.  Thank you for looking.  :hi:

Hi Anik,
from the Austrian point of view :) I would guess this was made by Oberglas!

Colour: http://newcowperantiques.co.uk/product/1960s_oberglas_turquoise_glass_vase_austrian (http://newcowperantiques.co.uk/product/1960s_oberglas_turquoise_glass_vase_austrian)

Pattern: http://www.willhaben.at/iad/viewimage?adId=25737064 (http://www.willhaben.at/iad/viewimage?adId=25737064)
(I see quite frequently rectangular vases with a very similar pattern)

:spls: Not exactly what I was hoping to hear, but thank you Michael.  I appreciate the input.  :kissy:

The colour of the ashtray isn't as blue-ish as my pictures make it.  It's more of a strange greenish blue.  But the pattern on the caraffe is very similar to the one on my ashtray, so I suppose you might certainly be right.

On Czech aukro, there are two ashtrays like mine, only in different colours:

Thank you, again.  :)

I think I've solved a mystery...  It appears that this ashtray is Czech and was designed by Vaclav Hanus for Jablonecke Sklarny, pattern number 32881.  There is one in the 1972/9 issue of  the CGR, only in a different size:

Am I right?   :hi:

Thank you Nemmie and Michael.  I felt mighty pleased with myself when I found it... almost like a hero.  ;D

It doesn't appear anywhere else in the CGR.  Now I'm just waiting for someone to tell me I'm wrong.  :thud:

I've written to Jindrich, and he was kind enough to reply:

Hi Anik I am sure you are absolutely true.
This ashtray is very ordinary here, nobody collects it, used only by smokers :-)

So I am right.  ;D
