Title: Heavy bowl, bark type moulding, uneven rim.
Post by: Brian H on May 30, 2011, 01:46:50 PM
Hello,
I have been trying to identify several pieces of glass for some time without success. Perhaps someone may recognise them? This one is approximately 5" tall.
Any help or guidance in the right direction is greatly appreciated,
Sincerely,
Brian

???

Not sure if this helps at all -- but my mom used to have a salad set something like this with one big bowl in that shape and style -- then 6 bowls (smaller) just like the bigger one.  All a matched set.  I think it was referred to an Ice Pattern rather than Bark

Just throwing it out there that may this is what it is, or was a part of once ???? but I could be wrong.

** (makes me think Denmark/Finnish or something like that, but that could be totally wrong too..)  ;D :-\

I agree Sue  :) and I originally bought this because the moulded pattern (rather than the shape) reminded me a little of a large Tauno Wirkkala/Humppila 'Revontulet' bowl I used to own. Although the quality of this bowl is,in my opinion, very good, the exterior moulding is nowhere near as crisp as the TW piece, the rim is uneven but not jagged. However,it is as weighty;at it's widest point the wall of the bowl is over an inch thick and the interior is polished to a smooth and tactile finish. There is no signature and no pontil mark.

same here - it looks like high volume production of very high quality.
