This glass slab "head" is a pick up from a local op-shop. The Slab is as you can see not quite square - it is not my dud photography. The slab is about 25 mms thick and the impression that forms the face would be approximately half the thickness. I have looked very carefully and can not find a signature or mark of any sort - a surprise given the quality of the piece.
Anyone recognise the style and can give me a maker?

Mats Jonasson (http://www.matsjonasson.com/CM.php?PageID=89791) is making a lot of glass slabs with faces - though I don't find your piece in the present catalogue.

I have to say Wolf, that that was my thought when I first spotted it. BUT (isn't there always one of those) the blue bit is an actual blob of glass and Mats colours the inside of the cast pieces I have seen, rather than using glass. I have looked at it oh so carefully and I can't find any sort of mark - Mats seems to be very good at marking his pieces.

Hi Ross,
One of these in red is pictured in a Czech glass auction catalogue from 2010 and described as 'designer not identified'.
Nice piece.
Christina.

Just bumped into this, sort of similar but obviously not a match:

If I had made that, I would have my name plastered all over it!
This has similarities....would the auctioneer be able to give you more inf? You will have to scroll down but it will be obvious which one I mean.

John: The piece you referenced in CGR (it appears to be by Jan Cerny, which makes sense) bridges the piece on here and the the piece in the Sypka catalogue. I think Jan Cerny is a decent bet here.

There is a lot of Jan's work pictured here.......

I too feel it may be a piece contemporary with Jan Cerny. He seems to have either carved away glass to give a sort of "cameo" effect or else carve into the back of glass (similar to my slab) in an "Intaglio effect. A couple of the pieces show on Google are remarkable similar to mine especially ones with two faces towards each other looking like they are about to kiss. What worries me is that he seems to have signed everything - and despite exmining and re-examining mine I can find no sign of a maker's marking. He was a significant figure in the 60s and is listed in Grover's - Contemporary Art Glass book.
All in all I suspect that it may have been made by a student of his perhaps as a form of examination piece.

unattributed as far as I can see but has good similarities and looks to be by the same hand.
