hi all,
hoping you experts out there can identify me a rather nice green vase with raised dimples on it and a lemon squeeze starburst style base, looks similar in colour to whitefriars onion or puffer vases.
it is 12 cm high x 14 cm wide approx, i have included pix to help identify
any help is greatly appreciated
from steve in leeds, uk
many thanks

Identified as Borske Sklo in Mark Hill's book "Hi Sklo Lo Sklo", page 69.

These knobbly vases are a bit pesky when it comes to ID. Emil had a clear knobbly ball vase (with what appears to be the same type of base as yours, Steve... the same 20-armed star) which isn't Borske Sklo. See thread: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,30415.0.html
I don't buy these pieces only because I can't tell which are Czech and which aren't. I do like the tactility of them, though. :)

HEHEHHEHE CONFUSED NOW..........LOL

Oh...sorry! Hadn't seen that thread. I don't think I've ever seen one of these with the normal cross shaped base seen on other Borske vases, so I assumed they were made differently. :-[

Well after a bit of googling I found some, on this Flick album:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/art-of-glass/collections/72157623325622325/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/art-of-glass/collections/72157623325622325/)
Quite a few of these knobbly vases shown there, a couple have the Borske cross, the rest have the star shape (copies?).

Here's another thread where the base of these knobbly vases are discussed...

Many months on, I'm still confused. ::) :usd:

The vase bottom left (amber) on that set on flickr that Wayne just posted , has a Czechoslovakian label and also has the star base.
It isn't quite the same as the one in this thread but does have the same base it seems.

It is all a bit confusing isn't it! That last thread Anik linked to makes an interesting read. There's also one in that thread with a "Bohemia Glass" label and star base. Maybe the ones with star bases are later production with a different mold? At least we know they are Czech now. :)

Wayne, that's exactly what I find confusing... labeled knobbly vases with completely different bases. Yet, Emil's piece isn't Czech. Obviously there is something peculiar about his base which I'm not seeing. Ah well. :ha:

Steve, please don't write in all capitals; it's the Internet equivalent of shouting and also hard to read. http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,30896.0.html
