Title: Vase with blue blobs and metallic bubbles -- German? WMF?
Post by: rocco on June 09, 2011, 01:54:08 PM
I need help with IDing this vase:
height/diameter appr. 16 cm, ground and bevelled rim, smooth base.

Pattern of blue streaky blobs, and small metallic air bubbles (difficult to describe, see pics).

The most similar piece I could find is this WMF vase http://cgi.ebay.de/WMF-Ikora-Glas-Klebeetikett-sehr-schon-/150461887526?pt=Glas_Kristall&hash=item23083a3426 (http://cgi.ebay.de/WMF-Ikora-Glas-Klebeetikett-sehr-schon-/150461887526?pt=Glas_Kristall&hash=item23083a3426) Dirk linked to in this thread: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,27481.0.html (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,27481.0.html)
The decor in mine is quite different, though...

Any comment greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Michael

A gentle bump :) (and one more pic of the bottom part)

Any ideas about this vase?
Could German be the right direction, or am I totally off? -- Dirk? :hi:

Thanks!
Michael

Sorry, Michael, I haven´t run across anything similar so far...  :-\
I can´t exclude german, there are some ´solid-base-designs´ from Ingrid and
Harzkristall Derenburg, but neither shape nor decoration do really ring a bell
I´m afraid....

Thank you so much for your contribution, Dirk!
So perhaps not German...
I should start to research in a different direction then. Just don't know where :ho:

As the decoration of blue splotches and metallic bubbles in rather thin glass seems quite refined I had thought this would be an easier on :usd:

Thanks again,
Michael

I´m aware it´s not the most useful and almost standard suggestion:
more east? Anik, neighbour, have you seen something similar?  :-*

Polish did cross my mind, but I haven't been able to find anything similar enough to write about...  I'll take a better look at my books tomorrow morning.

the treatment of material and design are pure Polish - and Krosno jumps to mind. But I cannot prove it.

Nothing in my books, but the 'mottling' is similar to that used in Józefina products... http://www.jozefina.pl/produkty/04/07052150126.html

Unfortunately, Michael, I can't be of much more help at the moment.  But I'll keep my eyes open.  :)

Wow, thank you all! My bumping brought some life into this thread :)

I had never thought of Poland, just because I did not come across any Polish glass so far...
Now I have a direction to research further, great!

Just one more question: any guesses about the age of this? Quite recent or older? (To me it looks 1970s or 80s).

Hi guys!

I think WMF is not a bad idea. I had a lighter (sold in the meantime) which was 100% made by WMF (i had e-mailed them and got a confirmation) and the glass looks similar to the one shown here. Look at some of my pics of this WMF lighter:

It was made around 1970.
