Heavy and sleek this 17 cm vase. The opening will allow one blade of grass, not two - so you might question functionality. The colour is mottled with a hint of purple towards the top. There is a clear casing but this is hard to see. The bottom is even but rough. Familiar, anyone?

I was having a wee look at Ron Wheeler's site today, Ivo. He has a tall bottle by Peter Tysoe for sale which looks as if it might be closely related.

these rough, unpolished bases, are often an indication of Chinese and on the Tysoe example the casing appears vastly thicker - but pictures can be misleading, so..........

Thanks Sue that is a very close match in colour and style, well spotted.

Pretty certain I'd recognise a :or: bottom finish. And this is a 6" mini, and it would not have a massive clear casing.
I'll label it as "unk.poss.tysoe" for now.... thanks!

Paul, these roughly finised bases can also be indicative of that Romanian maker of bubbly two-tone, rainbow iridescent pieces - not just Chinese bits!
This isn't that Romanian maker though - no iridesence - although the use of enamels is not unlike it.

Apologies for pouring cold water on that idea but the Peter Tysoe bottle has a snapped pontil mark as does this flask of his: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/StudioGlass#5462545916952686978
The flask is signed and dated (1979), I don't remember if Ron's bottle is too.

I have lots of studio glass with that kind of base. Mostly more recent pieces. Also Ivo... it may just be my eyesight, but is there a faint sig on that bottom - it looks like it in the photo? beginning with a curlyish S?

I might be imagining it but it could be Shaks...although it doesn't look anything like I know of his pieces. Or a number 90 in there somewhere? on the left hand side of your photo.

A close study reveals absolutely nothing in the way of sigs. There are a few bubbles in the glass under the casing which might ressemble a sig - but there is no deliberate mark there. Thank you for looking!
