Hello everyone
I have just bought this lovely Art Deco flower frog in the mould of a sort of high Priestess lady.
She is very nice and holds a great pose standing on a mound of flowers. The actual part where the flowers go reminds me of other glass pieces but cannot but my finger on which I have seen this similar design on.
In my years of collecting I have never seen this figure before and it would be lovely to find an identification for her please?
Something is pointing to Libochovice but very vague I am.
Any input would be greatly received and I often wonder when these figures turn up on their own what sort of bowl they would be married up with?
Thanks in advance Nige

Hi Nige, not one I've seen before, but it does remind me of this Libochovice swan, so you could be onto something there:

Hi Wayne
How uncanny as I was just about to research that figure on Sues website as it has just come into my head! lol
Yes they are so similar aren't they.I do like that duck once saw it on ebay in amber and it looked stunning!
I have seen a few pages of the Libochovice catalogues and the only figures I saw were the kneeling lady and tall lady carrying urn...they fit into the rock frog.
There must be more pages that I haven't seen as I have never seen the duck in the pages I saw.
Thanks again Wayne

I was just on Sue's website too actually, looking for your lady, no luck though. I also checked the Libochovice catalogue pages that are on the Sklo Union CD, but no luck there either (the swan/duck is there though). I don't suppose the base is marked "Czechoslovakia" anywhere is it (the swan was)?

Wayne
Is the penguin flower frog Libochovice too? That has the same base as the duck
No luck finding a makers mark on my lady as much as I've looked and felt along the glass.I wonder if she is Libochovice will she go in the same bowl as the Duck?
Thanks Nige

Hi Nige,
For my 2cents worth, my duck and my penguin have the same style bowl and I'm sure she would look great in it.
I am sure somewhere I have read that the penguin is Libochovice.

(who was watching her on e-bay and is pleased she will be in good company with your lovely Walther glass!)

In the catalogues on the CD there are 2 pages with figurines - one has the standing lady + kneeling lady, which must be the one you have seen, and the other has the duck, penguin, and standing lady again, each with bowls.
-
I think these 2 flower frogs could be made by the same maker as well

Yes, I've certainly seen the frog (frog) attributed to Libochovice.

Hi again
I have never seen the catalogue pages for the preening duck or penguin only the 2 ladies page.I have the tall lady with urn in green and amber and the kneeling lady in amber,I wonder if this lady also came in other colours?
The frogs in the pics Brenton look wonderful and yes you are right they do have the same base so it could be likely they were all Libochovice? I like the frog frog.
The tall frog with the ladies around it I know someone who has the same one in a huge bowl that has flying pelicans/storks around it and the bowl has similar feet as the Pelikan bowl by Walther(think Pamela has it on her website?) I do believe that particular bowl would have had a frog in it but not the ladies one you have Brenton...I suspect that bowl should have a similar shaped frog as the ladies but with birds and foliage on it(Sue has one on her website) as it sort of has the same theme with the birds in the bowl.

Thanks Meegs for the attribution.
Nigel, so far I haven't seen the frog on the rocks in any other colours. The Preening Duck however, I've seen in amber as well as green.
I agreed with you saying that the frog with the tall ladies shouldn't be matched with the pelikan bowl, although I believed that both pieces could be made by the same maker. The frog with the birds (shown at Sue's website) would probably be more accurate to match with this Pelikan / storks?? bowl, but again, the frog with the birds looks more like a swallows instead pelicans / storks?? :(
Back to your lovely lady.....the round-ish base where the lady stands kind of reminded me also of the Egyptian lady candlesticks, though unknown maker, I do believe they are Czechoslovakian made, and most likely Libochovice.

Snap! When I saw the mound of flowers that is just what I thought regarding the Egyptian sets! I think it's so exciting when glass turns up needing identification and thansk to some lovely people on this board who put a lot of work in I'm so grateful.
I have seen the duck in amber(beautiful) but never green...wow that would look good! I'm a green kind of guy!
By the way Brenton about 30 mins ago my Libochovice waves and gulls bowl arrived....its stunning!

Brenton,
funny you should mention the base of Nige's lady resembling the base of the Egyptian lady candlesticks as when I first read this post that was also my thought and I went and compared the photos posted to the candlestick.
The candle stick base although similar in shape and design has quite a different motif on the hemispherical base mostly small oval leaves with the odd flower and a couple of larger leaves thrown in where Nige's frog appears to be more flowers and less leaves!

Mige you beat me to it I was still typing when your response was posted.

Hi Meegs
Yes you are bang on.The mound on my lady has all flowers and you are right in what you say about the Egyptian candlesticks.
There still could be some connection? There are still Libochovice pieces out there I believe still need identifying....and some Mueller pieces aswell that need research.
Pamelas website is absolutely fantastic for identification as well as amazing photos....I love Sues gorgeous site aswell and pressglas korrenspondez is a minefield of info!

Nige,
I know Pamela's wonderful site, but am unfamiliar with Sues.
Could you supply a link please for Sues site.

Hi Meegs
You can type Black Poppy glass on google, and you'll see this lovely site :)
Nigel, the lady and the bowl though with different motifs, they do looked great together...well done :hiclp

Thank-you Brenton.
I know the site but didn't associate the name Sue with it.

Thanks Brenton!
Yes I think for now she can stay in that bowl next to my tall Riedel lady as she is frosted glass.I like to try and keep colours together if possible.
Will now have to try and find the bowl in amber and green for my other ladies.
