The vase is 5" high, very Whitefriars looking but the blue is not quite right, commemorating 50 years of something with a glass blowing connection, to save Googling the motto which is found on the harrow public school coat of arms is Latin for
"Let the fortune of the house stand"

Chris, I'm FAR from an expert on Whitefriars, but don't dismiss it yet, It is WF shape and this design was made in 2 different Blue colours I believe!

They color looks very Czech to me. Reminds me of the blue of some Skrdlovice pieces.

Motto implies English and there cannot be many glassworks that started in 1921 when many were closing down. However there is a possibility that it was a container glassworks. There were also a small number of glassworks set up by lightbulb companies at that time based on the new automatic envelope blowing machines. In either case the vase would have been bought in decorated and if ordered via one of the companies that offered such ware in trade journals, they could have gotten the blanks anywhere.
The other part of the design that must be significant are the 3 X's.

XXX is a US drink brand registered in 1920 but in use prior to that so not much use.

I've been pondering this one.............could it be pat. 9647 catalogued at 4.75 inches high ( what's .25 of an inch between friends? LOL!)
It is in the 1966 cat. as Blue cased in clear . The colour is VERY similar to the blue cased clear knobblies I have, although it looks a tad lighter and brighter in shade due to the lesser thickness of glass than that used for the knobblies
have a look here

One reservation I have for it being this pattern, is that the 9647s I have in my collection have a rounded rim ( fire polished?) whereas yours seems to have a flat ground rim.
Then of course, there's the 9657, the cat. height and rim match yours Chris, but the blue colour does not come into the years it was produced. Confused???

John, Emmi pretty sure too but it's the colour just not quite right.
Frank did consider they were 3 Xs but thought maybe just an easy way do the stand 'thingy' what they rest the rod on to turn it? see where you are coming from now, well spotted.
Nige, I knew exactly what you meant ;D, thought it was Sky blue at first
Anita I will check the Czech.
Thanks for the help so far, did try posting first on the Whitefriars site, just changed the title because it was a little vague so hoping the members on there will take a look but no joy so far unless of course there both on holiday :ooh:
Mods can some one please spare me further embarrassment and change the title to Commemorative please!!!!!! doh!!!!! [Mod: Done]
............. why do spell checkers not work on titles Anne??

What is the base like Chris?
Looks a bit like a short version of these: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,41670.0.html

John, the base is flat polished as in this 'odd' example.

The bases on those Swedish vases are not polished, just straight from the mould so no help really.
