Hi,
sorry for posting two pieces at the same time, but these vases seem similar enough
to be of the same origin.
Both have an opaque inner layer, the one of the pink vase gradually shaded, and an
outer layer of light green uranium glass.
The landscape painting should be enamel?
Are they french?
~11cm / 13cm tall
Any thoughts?

They are lovely Dirk and I am
-
Thanks, Christine! So they were not painted by Bob Ross then? ;D
-
Please could we see base shots as well? Many thanks :sun:

Hi m,
sorry there are no base shots available at the moment, since I´m still on vacation.
Both vases are mould-blown, so they have just a smooth base. The pink one has
an almost clear cased light uranium green base, the other one is white cased green.
:)

Dirk
these are high end art glass. I have seen a miniature vase with similar art work on it (also outer casing of uranium glass) and it sold very well. I don't recall right now who made it, but it is European and high end. My advice is to not sell them until you have a positive ID from someone you trust has the knowledge level know who made them.

Hi Dave,
many thanks for your input, much appreciated! :)
The glass with it´s gradually shading and the painting are indeed well executed. I love these
vases and rather hope to get some more than sell them (like always)... ;D
Since I haven´t seen anything similar during my visit to Czech Republic, I´m even stronger
leaning towards a french or belgian producer now.
Hopefully we´ll find out some time...

A short update. Two further examples have found their way to my home.
The shorter vase with the person on a way is ca. 11cm wide; the bigger
one is ca. 16.5cm tall and has a number painted to the base.
Then a few days ago these were listed on ebay:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/DAUM-Altes-Glasgefas-Vase-NANCY-/330781736159?pt=Design_Stil&hash=item4d0420bcdf
Could they really be Daum? And who or what the heck is Nunil?
A puzzled Dirk... ???
-
Is that all you paid!! You're trying to really upset me aren't you ;) :-*
-
I would think all these enamel decoration on matt ground vases are from Belgian decorator Pierre Jost in Dolhain. They might be signed (very small) somewhere in the decor. Perhaps the competition Wirths were involved.
Daum made similar items but always signed Daum Nancy. No news on nunil though.
-
Christine, the auction is still going... ;D Your chance - I won´t bid. I think
the ´Daum´ will make it a bit too expensive for me.
(p.s.: 40 for the large and 4.5 for the small one)
Ivo, thanks for your comment. So the ebay-Daum might be a forgery?
None of the pieces is signed...
-
very pretty Dirk! is the rim cut and polished then frosted? and is it bevelled on the edges please?
or are they firepolished rims?
m
-
So the ebay-Daum might be a forgery?
I couldn't possibly confirm that...
-
Thanks, Ivo. The search goes on... :)
M, the vases´ top rims have been ground, polished and bevelled before they got
the acid finish. The larger vase also has a ground and polished base.

thanks :)

I came across this one whilst browsing ebay for something elase !
http://www.ebay.ie/itm/370641807175?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Not sure if it's quite the same but may help ?
-
Thanks for showing, Dave - much appreciated! I think they are vaguely related, but many glassworks
made vases in this style - satinated surface with landscape painting. So the search goes on... ;D
-
Sorry for hijacking ;)
But this little vase is surely from the same maker, so I was curious if any new information has surfaced in the meantime...
6.5 cm high, 7 cm diameter.
Same construction as Dirk's first piece, thin inner layer pink fading to clear towards the base, Uranium casing (glows like mad under UV).
Thanks,
Michael

They are all lovely :)
Is the quality of the making and the enamelling very good? do they have some weight to them?
m
-
Sorry m, your reply somehow escaped me...
The weight of my miniature piece is appr. 100g, so fairly lightweight.
I would think that the quality of the "blank" is good, ultra thin pink inner layer, thick uranium casing, nicely finished rim with bevelled edge to the outside.
I cannot really judge the quality of the enamelling, lack of experience :-/
