It's neodymium glass. http://www.mindspring.com/~reyne/neowhatsis.html

I might guess at Scandinavia for its origin

Johansfors Bengt Orup design, and an expensive one at that.

In the past these have sometimes been mistaken for Whitefriars.  I have one almost identical to yours with a Murano label.  Whilst this appears to be an original label, I certainly wouldn't guarantee it.  I also have a red one with an impossibly thin stem.  Other collectors of bud vases have other colours with various differences in shapes.  I have seen a clear Johansfors Bengt Orup one, and whilst very similar, the stem tapered in at the top and was wider where it joined the base.  It was also signed on the base, and if I remember correctly it had a polished pontil mark.  Have you checked for any signature (it was signed around the outside of the base)?
I hope yours is a Johansfors Bengt Orup vase , as Ivo said it would be very desirable.

Here is a picture of mine

I would expect an Orup one to be signed. I recently bought the Orup version (I hope) on eBay but it hasn't arrived yet. It looks different from this piece (more bulbous and clear), and I've never seen neodymium glass from Johansfors. But then I've seen a lot less glass than Ivo. The link to the one I've bought is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170675629797&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

These are becoming a puzzle, here is a link to another one, different again.

I also have a grey one Ivo, I will post a picture of all three later.

Here are the picture I promised:  The red is cased in clear so not quite as thin as first appears but still much thinner than the others. All unsigned.

just an observation as I've never actually seen one of these, I found the link Pat gave last night and to my eye the bubble shape and the shape of the vase looks very different to those on this thread.  Obviously they may all be slightly different I guess but there does seem to be a number of differences just on looking at the pics. The one Pat linked to seems to be signed and have a label of some sort.
The one David posted is very different to me, to the signed one Pat linked to...looks like a different type of vase to me.

Ah. No offence to anyone, but I think I may have been too quick on the ID declaration. Roy's looks like Pat's Murano piece to me as well.
