Title: Very Tall Ribbed & Cased Glass Vase : ID Required.
Post by: logboy on August 13, 2011, 04:29:00 PM
Would appreciate the help in trying to identify this piece. Not much of a glass enthusiast, in that I don't have any real knowledge, but I've noticed one or two pieces catching my eye recently.

Prepared to be told this is of absolutely no note, or that it came from a pound shop a few weeks back, but something about the shape and production made me risk the £2 it cost me. It's about 5 inches at the base, about an inch or so at the top, fades from deep blue (but not cobalt) to a pale blue, and is what i see referred to as 'cased glass' in that it has a white glass interior. Very tall, perhaps a foot and a half high - I've not left the background blank on the pictures, so there's perhaps some sense of scale, but I can measure it if it seems to be a major factor - and has no sticker on it, but signs one was on the base. Not hugely heavy like it would be if it were crystal, though I could be proven wrong on it's material because it's quite thin to my eye.

If you have any ideas, let me know. Thanks

Hi and welcome   :)
I could be wrong but it's size and design makes me think it may be a fairly contemporary 'interiors' piece.
Is the base polished completely flat and shiny?  Is the rim flat and shiny?  or are either the base or rim matt?
I guess the base may be dimply as it looks mould blown to me perhaps.

i was thinking something similar, but then i'd looked at some 60s pieces and seen quite thin glass and stuff that looked moulded rather than blown.

this has a shiny base, no sign of a pontil being ground out, and has a seam vertically down both sides which is the sign of a moulded piece.

like i say, quite prepared (if certain) to ditch it, but i'd need to be certain and perhaps able to say where it came from. could be ikea...
