Did some research and kept coming up with Harlequin figure which it certainly is not.

Any help appreciated.

A really beautiful piece Chris....I wonder if it is a Franco Toffolo renaissance piece?
It has such detail, and so many techniques.
I will watch the expert's opinion with great interest. :sun:

Sadly Rosie it is damaged a chip on the base but I must have seen it's potential 'cos I broke into a £10 note to buy it ;D
Thanks again Chris :sun:

Hi Chris
This figure definitely is referred to as a Harlequin figurine. They are called this due to each figure wearing different 17th century clothing. The term Harlequin is just a generic term given to this group of figures
Ciao

First I better say that I don't know. Just wanted to say that the filigrana work looks a lot like AVeM.

I believe this is a genuine Harlequin figurine from Murano, Chris:

And this one:

Quite different from your figure, a Renaissance figure.
I think we are really looking for a maker, aren't we?, and although I was thinking Toffolo, Anita has far greater experience with Murano, so I am off to research AVeM.......
-
I am totally lost when it comes to the human figures. How tall is it, Chris? I used to think AVeM made only the 8-9" figures until I saw an 11" one with an AVeM label. I see the figures online a lot and am always tempted. But there are so many little pieces that can be broken, I shy away.

Just a note that I don't think this is a Harlequin figure, although the figure that Rosie links to clearly is. I asked Dean a couple of days ago about his usage of of the term Harlequin, which is a figure with very specific attributes, and he hasn't replied. Yet he continues to use the name to apply to all figures in pre-21st Century clothing. I suspect when Chris did an Internet search, the generic use of harlequin came from sites associated with Dean.

It's 8.5" high Anita.
Saw the thread David so I chose the title carefully ;D I googled Murano Harlequin and clicked on images and these came up a lot.........

Hi Rose, the work looks like the same hand, looking at the stance and the position of his arm pretty sure he would have had a cane in his hand do you think ? hence the damage on the base think that's where the cane would have joined?
