Title: Help for Newby to Glass Please
Post by: nina on August 23, 2011, 06:16:37 PM
I'm hoping someone may be able to help me.  I don't really know anything about how to identify glass and have a lovely small decanter and 6 shot glasses to match.  They are either engraved or etched in white with a Christmas scene and the glass is is a pinky orangy amaber.  I have attached a photo if the upload works.  If anyone can tell me anything about this item I would be very grateful..  The only thing I have come across that is similar is one with a hunting scene on it at an antique fair which was was described as being of french origin c1875.

Thanks in anticipation

Nina

Hello Nina,   :hi:what a pretty decanter.....just in time for Christmas.

The mushroon shaped stopper reminds me of Scandinavian design.
Would you be able to show a picture of the base please?

Hi Rosie

I have attached pic of base - it doesn't show anythingas far as I can see.  I have also taken a pic of the stopper top but the light hasn't done it justice.  It has a pretty * mark, just visible in part on the photo but very clear and precise

Welcome to the board. I believe these are French and something like 1950s, pretty common I'm afraid. The decoration is either a transfer or a screen print. Sometimes found with boats on as well.

Hi Nina

I have the same thing but with multicoloured dots on them.  They're such fun.  I keep conditioner in it in the bathroom!
