Title: Is this vase by Reijmyre, made in Sweden
Post by: davidfish1212 on August 24, 2011, 01:51:16 PM
Hi all,
I bought this vase yesterday for a couple of pounds and was wondering if anyone recognised it? It has a made in Sweden label and is a fantastic blue colour, darker than WF kingfisher, very close to a Riihimaki colour that they used. Its a big bit of glass at 9" tall and 6" wide. It was part of a collection of the big brandy glasses you used to get in the 70's.
Thanks in advance,
David  :sc:

I could well be wrong David, but looking at data for factory marks for this producer, both Leslie Jackson and Ivo Haanstra (who, incidentally, show identicall images) would seem to be indicating not.      Apparently, the better pieces are engraved with the factory name plus, sometimes, the designers name/initials  -  and labels are suggested as being oval, and showing the factory name and their inception date of 1810 (I know this to be true as I found a piece with label in recent days).      However, let's see what others might suggest. :)

I've just looked in both of the Leslie Pina volumes, also Bill Geary's book, and have to say that, surpirsingly none of these appears to show any label information on Reijmyre, so no help there.

Hi David,  Vas Vitreum of Sweden uses this label.....here is an example:

I'm sure I've seen that label on Elme glass, not sure who else used it though...

Doesn't look like Vas Vitreum studio work, I have a couple of bits of Vas Vitreum both are signed to the base. If this is a 70s piece it would also rule Vas Vitreum out as they were first established in 1985.

Hi, thanks everyone for all your information and thoughts. I don't think it is of the same quality of vas vitreum, definitely no makers marks. I will see what i can find on Elme glass, the colour of the vase might lead me to an answer. Thanks everyone again, its a really nice vase and everyone asks about it when they come into the house ( ignoring all my Mdina!!!) it would be nice to tell them a bit about it.

Cheers, David :sc:
