Hello all
I know there has been a lot of discussion about these encased bubble vases before but after reading and re-reading previous posts, I wondered if I could still call on some expert opinions as I can't decide if my piece is Aseda or not. The piece feels like a good quality item but despite a lot of hunting around, I haven't been able to find one of a similar shape or colour to help me ID it. Dimensions are:
Height - 15cm
Width at base - 7cm
Width at top - 11cm
Any thoughts, very gratefully received.
Kind regards
Helen

Hope I am wrong but it looks rather like modern production of the type you'll find in interior shops, but it is likely to have been made in Scandinavia or Poland perhaps.

Thanks for your thoughts Emmi. I was in two minds as to whether it was a modern one or something a bit older. I'm a bit new to this so it's all good experience. This was a speculative charity shop purchase (and my eye is always drawn to green things) and more than I would normally pay (£6.50). If it is a modern piece, the cost can be offset by the rather lucky find that I had a couple of days before in another charity shop when I got a Whitefriars Geoffrey Baxter vase number 9653 that cost £3.50!

It's an attractive piece and if it feels well made, it probably is?
I've left more 'pierced bubble in base' pieces than I've bought by being put off by modern 'homages'. At least this one doesn't look like some of the M&S stuff that I've seen that although having 2 colours isn't cased glass but painted in the inside!

Thanks scavo. Your message just gave me a moment of enlightenment and I remembered a xmas present from my mother in law a couple of years ago. I recently moved house so things are still in boxes but I've found it, and yes, it's an example of one of the M&S ones (still with a label on). I've attached a couple of pics just for people's reference. Base diameter is 8 1/2cm, top is 17cm.

Yes, I think these ones actually are cased glass - but not all are.
Also with the M&S ones there can be random bubbles around the main bubble (common shoddy Chinese glass). But that one looks like a pretty clean and decent quality example that shows that the chinese are upping their game. I got pulled up for painting Taiwanese glass in a poor light earlier.
We have to remember that the Chinese were once the masters or porcelain. When the label just says Made in China, is that Taiwan? Made in People's Rebublic of China is China as we think of it. I need to check the Taiwan/China forum.

Taiwan is a completely separate country and will have no relation to a made in china or PR of China label.
An few examples of Taiwanese glass for perusal in the following link:

... don't want to get into an argument or history lesson ... but Taiwan was know as the Republic of China ...

further to the M&S cased or painted: info is based on what I have seen in charity shops not M&S.
There are few pieces of M&S single bubble in charity shops I visit. Some appear to be cased glass but at least 1 I have seen was painted on the inside. It was all scratched where someone had tried clean it. It still had the M&S sticker on the base.

I think its fairly safe to assume that the piece in question, would have been produced in mainland china.

Modern Polish, Krosno I think.
