Title: Small footed pressed bowls - same factory/designer
Post by: Frank on August 29, 2011, 12:09:12 AM
Identical shapes and importantly the design is reflected in the foot. 100 (4") ΓΈ 76 (3") high. Suggestions?

Frank, I have a niggling feeling that I saw these or something very similar in one of the catalogues on Pamela's Musterbuch site a while ago. They stuck in my mind as I was looking something like them up ages ago for someone else, whose pics I can't now find... ::)

I hate to be presumptuous as I know next to nothing but surely the blue is Walther, 1936? (Pamela's site)   :X:  :-\

Well spotted, thank you. Re viewing Walther catalogues for the pattern on these two...

Same shape yes, but not the same pattern... Frank's has horizontal patterning - Pamela's hasn't. Feet are different too...

Awww don't be sad! It could be a pointer in the right direction.  :kissy:

Look again Anne, the rim was made with the same mould and the same design philosophy has reflected the bowl pattern in the foot. It is a certainty that these are Walther. Just need Pamela's help in where she got her attribution, as that might give pattern numbers for these two designs. Intriguing that both of the above two came from different directions but recently ended up together.

As I said Frank, "Same shape yes, but not the same pattern." and "It could be a pointer in the right direction" :)

I've stopped crying Anne!
My daughter bought 4 very like this (blue) and in blue. Perhaps I'll add a pic for interest when I go there and get hold of one.

Hi frank!    :hi:
I won't see them until Thursday when I babysit but I'm reasonably sure they have the same rim. Otherwise, I don't really have an interest in posting a pic or starting a new thread.

Good luck with clarifying the issue.    :X:

I just found what appears to match the reference given for Pamela's bowl. http://www.pressglas-korrespondenz.de/aktuelles/pdf/pk-2002-3-2-mb-walther-1936.pdf pdf page 16 centre. Unfortunately the picture is so low quality it is unclear. But this does not appear to have the scalloped rim nor a decorated foot. So perhaps an incorrect attribution... sorry Pamela... subject to finding a clearer scan from that catalogue.

Now, will Angel's have a fourth different body design...

Frank: it looks like my daughter's dishes are Walther, 1936. Here below-

The Walther 1936 attribution is being questioned here as the apparent source, used by Pamela, does not confirm and with now yet another pattern with identical characteristics... the plot thickens.

I followed up the design concept looking for anything using the rim design and with body design reflected on the foot. I got lucky and found matches with Libochovice 1847 and 3645. The tracked designers and found the same concept used by Panek in a similar shape. This is not an ID but a distinct possibility as designer do enjoy reworking there ideas and in Panek's case there is a distinct sign of this idea following through a lot of his career...

Pamela... did you ever review this thread?

Still no definite answer and no change to attribution, I still think it is not Walther. :(
