Hello all :)
I was wondering if anyone had an idea who made this (i presume) Scent Bottle. The bottle itself is around 4 inches tall (5 with the stopper) and about 3 inches in diameter.
The bottle is signed but it difficult to read and even harder to photograph due to reflections. The pictures i have managed are in negative format but are still very hard to see clearly. I have no idea on the bottles age but it was bought by my father at a UK car boot sale around 7 years ago.
Any ideas at all would be most helpful, all the photos i have so far are here:

Thanks,

Hi James, welcome to the GMB.
Try dusting the signature area with talc and wiping off lightly. That should make the signature easier to view.
Also, if you can, get in as close as possible (while using the camera macro function) to fill as much of the image as possible with the signature. If you cannot get very close, then use a plain white background and that will stop the camera focusing on the background rather than the signature.
And a side-view photo of the whole thing may help to get an ID as sometimes just a shape and decor will suggest a maker.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I've done the talc powder trick and taken a couple more pictures (macro enabled this time :))
They can be found here:

Thanks again.

:hi: James,
Genuine Mdina is what I'd propose :t:
-
It could be William Walker.
His signature is notoriously bad to decipher. I'm sure there are other threads on here....of course, I may be wrong :-[

William Walker was my first thought, then I discarded it until I saw m had the same thought.

Second word Luther? Maybe?

the base is different to this one I'm linking to, but the trails and splotches have similarities.

That's not to say it is definitive but just adding for reference :)
It would be much appreciated if you could please upload your photos of the scent bottle to the actual board rather than just linking them. If the links disappear the thread becomes useless in terms of helping others in the future without the pictures. Many thanks :sun:

From a purely graphological point of view, i can't see how the William Walker comparison can be right. The way the letters are formed is all wrong. I know handwriting and glass etching are not exactly the same but similar rules should apply in terms of formation of letter shapes.

My 2 cents worth ..... :huh2:
____?? ___ Wilson, as it looks like Wilson to me (the second word) ?? :-\
-
I wonder if it might be Lewis Wilson. I googled him and found he makes beads and glass sculptures. So maybe? This bottle wouldn't be typical for him. I couldn't find his signature.
-
Found a small piece Lewis Wilson signed. It was just a big W and a date. So probably not him.

yes with regards William Walker there are some differences, however also similarities, and there are some similarities with the decor technique used. Although against is the fact that the base is different, however looking at the few pieces available on the board the base is not always finished in the same way I don't think :-\
here's another to compare

Are you based in the UK as sometimes where you bought the piece can give a good lead.

I reckon this is a perfume from the USA. It is very like a blurry hearts and vines piece. The signature is where I would expect for an American item as well. I wondered if the second name was "Gilham" or something close.

Yeah, i will sort that out. prob need to do a bit of resizing 1st. That's why i used photobucket, the pics are 3mb each :(

As for location, yes i'm in the Midlands area of the UK. The bottle was bought at a Nottinghamshire car boot sale along with a David Wallace bottle, i don't think there is any connection between the two however.

No photos available to view any more as they were all hosted outside the board.
