As promised here are some pictures of my frosted fish. I would be interested to know what period it is from and anything else about it really. It is the favourite piece of glass in my collection.

:hi:
Not what I was expecting, Nemmie - yours is a "normal" Said shape Fish, crizzled, cased and coloured with blue and silver chloride effects - but frosted as well!
This is mine.

Ahh yes I have seen one like yours before somewhere. I think it was on an international Ebay search and yours is certainly a different shape. Very nice.
I love frosted glass in general so this was the perfect fish for me to find. Cost me a lot but it was worth it as it brings me joy every day. :)

Aaah.
I don't do international searches, really. I don't "do" paypal (I don't get involved with credit or debt) so paying is difficult and the postage is prohibitive.
I can't find pics of my brown wedgy Fishies. Will have to add to my list of things to do!

Please may I ask a silly question?
Why are they called 'Fish' vases?? :pb:
-
They're based on the shape of a Manta Ray, looking at it from above.
-
Oh, I see, thanks Sue. So then, why not call them Manta Ray Bottles......you couldn't get many flowers in them as 'vases', could you? :huh2:
-
And they sure as hell ain't bottles.....
Your fish looks like a ghost Sue. :o

Why on earth would anybody want to ruin a piece of Art by sticking dead vegetation in it? :spls:

Damian Hirst is a media phenomenon, not an artist.

You make an interesting point there Sue. Obviously, the purpose of a vase is to put flowers in, but with these art glass vases, were the makers' intentions to create a stand-alone piece, not to be used for any practical purpose? Or did they envisage their pieces with flowers within? Hmmm, interesting!

Sorry Nemmie. Didn't mean to go off topic. :-[

A defining feature of Studio Art Glass is that while the form created may be based loosely on something functional such as a vessel, it is not created to be used as such.
I have absolutely no need for vases.
I do feel a need for Art.

You really coudln't put flowers in it. Maybe one flower but what's the point. It would only detract from its beauty.
I actually have a few glass flowers around the house in vases but never have real ones.

I can just see a manta ray courting it's lady-love with a rose between it's teeth... :spls:
not.
