Anyone want to comment on why this went for so much? It looks like a nice NEGC Patterned weight, but I don't see anything that special.

Hi Allan. I suspect that at least two bidders decided that it was antique French. It is a timeless issue - even the most bizarre attribution only has to convince two bidders, and you get a surprisingly high price. I have just pointed out to Boldon Auction Rooms (http://www.boldonauctions.co.uk/) that their 'Bacchus' is a Murano and their 'Clichy' featured on their Home Page is Chinese. So estimates of £3000 plus may be excessive! But it would only take two people to believe it, and who knows what the Chinese might sell for.

Might also have been the muslin ground. Usually the spaced millefiori NEGC weights are on latticinio.
