Post by: mhgcgolfclub on September 16, 2011, 08:37:17 PM
A Victorian white sugar bowl decorated with 2 fish and 2 swans.

I have not seem one before . I thought it could be American rather than European.

Height 14cm , diameter 13.5 cm , weight 450 gm

Thanks Roy

Roy

I have seen this pattern but always in clear/colourless never in opaque glass.  Our collection includes a cream pitcher with two fish, one large swan and two small swans.  A friend has a slightly larger pitcher and a sugar basin like yours. The mould our cream was produced in was nice and sharp but the execution of the glass pressing leaves lots to be desired - raised rough seams, no fire polishing and the glass quality is terrible!  There is a reversed number 1 pressed into the interior base of the bowl.

I have always felt English or European.

Thank you Sid

I have not seen this pattern before, I have seen a similar sugar bowl in white glass with a cow.

As to maker or country made will have to remain unknown for the time being.

Thanks Roy
