I am not even quite sure what animal this is LOL... A Mole? A Shrew? Would this be considered a paperweight? Measures about 3 1/2" wide. It is marked as shown. Can anyone tell who this is? Thanks
-
Whether it is a paperweight is a good question. Some animals were made as paperweights but many more were made as - well - animals.
Looks a bit like a mole to me. I don't recognise the "signature".
Let's see if anyone has any ideas in this forum then, if needed, it can be moved to the general Glass forum.

Hi jenndk, the style of glass looks very likea Steuben 'hand cooler' to me, but they are usually signed 'Steuben'.
The writing looks as though it says L. Lome or L. Love. Not a name I am familiar with, but I will see if I can find out more.
I have only seen one Steuben mole before and that was in an upright pose, but they did vary the poses of their animals, so that is not to say that this is not Steuben, nor is it to say it is.
The name on the base could be the owner's name......they were very expensive.......I'll carry on looking for you.

What this looks like to me is that someone was trying to copy the mystery Zane signature. Or maybe it says Lowe???
-
I feel it ends in "ame" - giving L Lame, Fourame, L Zame, ????

The thing doesn't have any ears, does it? Must be a bird.
-
Neither do moles have ears that stick out - but this must be a drunken mole - it is legless!

I have spent a long time looking at this signature and I think it might be Poul, Povl, Pavl or Paul. The writer finds it difficult to do curves, so if you enlarge the signature to full screen, you can see it looks as though he may have tried to make the letter P. I think there is also another letter before this, could be an I, or it might be a 1.
I'll keep looking anyway. :wsh:

As it's a month on, are we allowed to Bump this little mouse as I am in 'Mouse Mode'??? ;D

Not only bumped but also moved to Glass for a wider audience.

Thanks Kevin, that seems a very good idea....I'm off to carry on looking.... :wsh:

Thank you... I still have not been able to figure out signature, but did find another glass piece on ebay with the same signature on the bottom.
