Title: Pressed Glass Compote
Post by: 5kazam on September 18, 2011, 09:26:23 PM
I am trying to find out when and by which company this compote was made.  It has Rd 133858 impressed (raised) on the bowl.  No luck finding out anything from IP Australia, and all my searching on the internte hasn't produced any results.  I am assuming that it is around the 1920's era, and also assuming that it is Australian made.  Any help will be great.  Thanks.

Hello

I think the correct registry number is 153858 which is Davidson's hobnail pattern.

I stand corrected Sid.  I would have sworn the '5' was a '3', but a magnifying glass has confirmed the '5'.  Thank you.
Can you tell me then when it was made - is it Australian or English

Forget the where it was made.  Just had a bit of a scrounge and it would have been made in England.  Probably came to Australia as part of the barter Davidson did with his brother.  As the design was registered in 1890, maybe this compote is a bit older than I thought in my original post.

Probably came to Australia under import. Aus didn't have a very active glass industry until the 1920s, and so all glass up to the rise of Crown Crystal, and very much afterwards as well, was imported.
