Title: What is the Missing link to this Uranium item ( *Glows * )
Post by: antiquerose123 on September 19, 2011, 05:16:46 AM
 :hi:

I bought a box of odds and ends at an Auction here.  This item was in there (along with other stuff I will post in the coming days).  I am assuming it is the top of something -- but I have no idea what -- since I do not know a maker either.

Anyone have any ideas on it?  It glows, and it does have a raised 15 on it.....if that means anything.

My *guess* -- a top of a Small teapot....Maybe    (http://serve.mysmiley.net/confused/confused0081.gif)

Thanks for any input :kissy:

..........and the answer is............it is not a teapot lid (don't teapot lids all require a small hole somewhere - to let out the steam or whatever).    It could be the lid to a trinket pot - although seems a little high and chunky.....   but I'll go for a comport lid (U.S.A. spelling).    Historically, a small stemmed and footed dish with high domed lid (and often a knobbed finial), originally intended for serving stewed fruit  -  French spelling is compotier (sorry I've forgotten how to do the accent over the 'o') which is usually shortened to compote.        Or as a third punt, perhaps a lid from a sugar.     But I'll go for the comport I think, and as it glows let's put the date a somewhere between 1925 and 1945 (assuming it is original). :)
P.S.  the correct expression is   "odds and sods" ;D

apologies Rose  -  Iv'e just realized you didn't give the size, and looking again, it suddenly appears as though it might be smaller than I first thought  -  in which case maybe it is a trinket bowl lid.   Anyway, I've probably now confused everyone :-[

Hello

Might be the glass piece that goes on the top of a coffee percolator, but without a size we are all guessing!

Whoooooops, sorry.  It is about 2.5 inches wide, and the same tall.   :spls:

I have an old coffee Percolator here, and it would be quite large compared to that one.  I will take a pic of that, just so you can kinda get the idea comparing it to that one....so I think it is too large for that, IMHO

At that size - how about a powder jar?
