Read the post earlier about the bowl with similarities to my Caithness Cyclone bowl, and it reminded me that I didn't post the Xanadu photos.

I don't suppose I really ought to go DDDBM&T here as well,
gorgeous, just gorgeous, I'm green,
Thankyou! :kissy:
It is cased in clear - but the strapping is over that, is it???? I've never handled one, sob, snifff.

Glad you like them!
I'm not a technical wizz with glass (just know what I like :) but I don;t think it is cased in clear. It looks like a central core of clear, with the colours you see on the outside, white on the inside, and the trailing over the top of the outside colours - but the trailing is not raised - it is sort of sunken into the sand and turquoise colours.
Sorry - I cannot explain it any better than that....... you can feel the trailing quite clearly, but it is still a fraction lower than the sand and turquoise layers - If you imagine a flat wet sand beach with a rivulet of water over it thats how it looks - as if it has just sunk into the other layer a little. It is definitely layered on top of them though as you can see those colours through it as the trailing blue glass is transparent rather than opaque.
have added a close up - hope it shows better what I mean

Surface-decorated; marvered-in trails.
What I was wondering is, is the marvered-in trailing over a clear casing, over the colours.
Normally, surface-textured is sort of a silky matt finish.
I could see shineyness on the neck of the bottle, which is what makes me wonder.
The ones in the Exhibition in Perth were all hidden behind tons of heavy glass........

Thanks for the explanation re the trailing.
re the casing I am now more confused - the top rim (mouth ) of the vase seems to have a clear layer. this may continue as a very thin layer over the turquoise section - but the sand coloured section is definitely not cased and is much duller - as in less shiny than - than the top half of the vase . The bottom section is very silky matt - not shiny at all
too hard for me at this time of night - off to bed for me. :usd:
