Title: Help in identifying maker - ID = Bormioli, Italy
Post by: Beck on September 22, 2011, 04:45:15 AM
I have an amber coloured decanter and glass set (6 glasses although there were originally 8 in the set) that I think is circa 1960-1970's. I have been trying to find out who it is made by as I am trying to decide whether to keep or sell.
I have posted a pic of the decanter and a glass as well as an etching of the makers mark on the bottom of the decanter.
If anyone has any idea about this, I would love to know.  :)   PS. I am in Australia if that is of any help.

Welcome to another Aussie on the board.  Personally I am from Melbourne.  I suggest you look at the following link

http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=42159.new;topicseen#new

and particularly the first three replies which make suggestions about what makes it easier to help you.  Your photos are very small, for instance - try for as close as you can to 124Kb file size - usually c. 600x600 pixels - sometimes more as the complexity or simplicity of the phot can make quite a difference.  Remember there is a limit of 999 pixels in either direction.

Another thought was to invert you maker marking (see photo) - looks like ERF or perhaps BRF to me - no idea who the maker is but I am sure you will get help if you supply some more pictures - especially of the base and the mark.

Thanks guys. You have pointed me in the right direction.   ;D
This is my first attempt at tracing makers marks and origins and I have realised how frustrating it is when you don't know what you are doing!

Interesting - they chose to use the name again some years ago:
Bahia (https://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=bormioli+bahia&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.46340616,d.bGE&biw=1366&bih=666&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=J-aLUcWLNofm4QTP4YDAAw)
