H. 4¾" 12cm, width 5¾" 14.7cm, w. 12oz 338g.   Bowl lightly optic 16-rib moulded, cased or flashed on the inside with ruby glass.   Applied amber rim with 20 pulled projections.   Pontil scar neatly and centrally ground out and polished.

Well made frame with a ball at the top of the handle and four legs.   The mark seems to be comprised of five elements — "I" "W" symbol "S" "EP".   The "I" in this first position is often interpreted as a "J".   The "S" after any neutral non-ampersand symbol on EP marks is usually Sheffield.  Unfortunately my initial attempts to find this mark have been unsuccessful.

Any ideas on makers, dates, or even purpose!

Such things are usually called preserve dishes here or marmalades in the US

I came across a lonely EP "S" today that wasn't Sheffield.   It's the mark on an EP handled holder for a Pyrex mug with the early PYREX/JP mark.   The mark starts "S·???", which turned out to be one of the marks of Suckling Limited, Birmingham.   Here "S" stands for Suckling.

Christine — "Preserve Dish" is what I will call it.   Thanks.
