Hi, Im still sorting through some more glass (some of which to put on ebay), hoping you may be able to help with these ones. With the small dishes I was thinking of putting them altogether in one lot as they probably wouldnt be worth much. Dish 4 has what looks like tiny little dots in the glass and it feels rougher than the others. I have looked closely at all of them, but there are no makers marks on these, but the bluey-green vase does have a reg no. on the base (826869). Thanks, Sarah :)

Your bluey green vase is a Davidson 295 Chevron vase. The design was registered in 1938. The vase came in 4 sizes 4.5, 6.5, 8.5 and 9.5 inches

Thanks lustrousstone :)
Thats great, I can sort that one out now. Mine is 6.5 inches, so its one of the smaller ones then. Horrid little thing it is. Thanks for your help, Sarah :D

Hi Tabatha, i'm not an expert but i'll have a guess or two.
Blue Glass Candy Jar?
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b171/TopsyCat/candyjar.jpg
Hmmm... Judging by the lid it looks Italian. :)

I often see this bowl so perhaps from one of the Gateshead firms?

Can you do a picture of this looking down on the top as well please?
-
Hi, :) Thanks Tigerchips and Anne, this is a piccy of the cakestand from the top. Hope its not too big, I did shrink it down a bit before I uploaded it. Thanks again for your help, Sarah :)

Hi again, sorry but I have one more. I was hoping to be able to find this one myself, but Im not doing very well. Is this pattern called diamond and is it a toothpick holder? Im probably completely wrong  . It is quite a heavy glass with a thick base which looks slightly green. Thanks, Sarah :)

It's another Davidson I think, certainly looks like their hobnail pattern. Can you give the size so we have more idea of use.
-
Hi Lustrousstone, its 6cm high and about 7 1/2 cm across the top. It has a star type base to it (I think). Thanks, Sarah

Toothpicks sound good

Thanks Lustrousstone :)
Ive been looking for glass with the same pattern on, this has the same pattern, but do glassmakers use the same pattern as each other? Also, this glass is really dull, so does that mean its colourless? (dont know if I have the right word for it  ). Thanks for your help, Sarah
It wont let me link to the right page, but if you click on the link and search " 80.547/596 " . Its the first one in the list of searches

By really dull do you mean cloudy? It's clear/colourless glass but it should be shiny. If its cluody inside and out sounds like its been in the dishwasher. Scroll to the bottom of this page and see if this is the same pattern http://www.cloudglass.com/r18671890.htm

I dont think its cloudy, just dull. Its never been in a dishwasher (only got my first one of those last year). It was my great grandmothers and its been in a cupboard for the last 30 years (I think it needs to head back in that cupboard ). I cant describe it very well, its looks like bottle glass to me - flat. Perhaps its because the glass is so thick (nearly 1/2 cm thick (the base is even thicker)). Thanks, Sarah
-
I think it could be Davidson hobnail glass, like in your link, that seems to be quite dull too. :) Which one it could be though I havent a clue, there seem to be different types of Davidson hobnail on ebay, that dont look like this one. I think I will pop that one back in the cupboard and forget about it again . Thanks for your help, Sarah
-
It's possibly worth more than you think if it is undamaged and Davidson, it may just be that it's old glass. Let's see if anyone else has any comments
-
Thanks Lustrousstone,
It isnt in perfect condition - It has a tiny rough spot on the inner edge of the rim and Im not sure if it has a scratch line or maybe a crack in the bottom. It is on the inside of it on the bottom, but when you turn it over and look at the bottom it hasnt come through to the other side. And there is a brown mark in the glass on the inside of the base. Dont know what that is.
I'll do a few more searches and if I cant find anything or no one knows anything on it then its going back in the cupboard and hopefully it will be forgotten about for another few years  . Thanks for your help, you've been great. Sarah :)

I've got several of these with silver lids - one is identical hobnail pattern. It's a dressing table jar. Can't post a pic at the moment as away from home (babysitting new granddaughter :D )
-
Hi Leni, thanks for posting :) . Is yours just as dull as my one? It looks like bottle glass (?) only way I can describe it, and the thick base has a green sort of tinge to it. Do you know who made yours? Thanks, Sarah :)
-
One of mine is quite dull. I have a small collection, some of which are cut and some pressed glass. I'm embarrassed to say I can't remember which the hobnail one is   I guess I just collect too much!
I am not sure of any of the makers, but might be able to tell the age from hallmarks on those with solid silver lids. Will look on Monday when we get home :D
-
Thanks Leni :)
I think this little pot could be pressed (got seams down the side)? Would be great if you could have a look at yours next week for me. Thanks for your help, Sarah :)

Well, I spent some time yesterday photographing my dressing table jars and looking up hallmarks, so I hope this helps, Tabatha.
And thank you Anne, I have at last ditched tinypic and ventured to use yobunny! :D Aren't I brave?
This hobnail pattern one (7.5 x 6.5 cm) has a very 'nouveau' image of flowers - poppies, I think - on the lid. It is dated 1905 by the hallmark. http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-1109 This is pressed glass. You will see that the glass is very 'yellowish'.
This smaller one (3.5 x 3 cm) is dated 1892 http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-1110 It is cut glass, much clearer in colour than the previous one. The lid has a 'Green Man' image, with leaves, birds, etc.
Here's another little (4 x 3.5 cm) Green Man jar, this time dated 1893 http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-1113 This one is not hobnail. Pressed glass again, but not so yellow as the 1905 jar.
Here's a Green Man bottle (8 x 5 cm). This is a cut hobnail pattern and the hallmark is for 1892 also. http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-1114
Finally, this one (7.5 X 7 cm) is a cut glass jar which is not hobnail, but has some hobnails in the panels  It has a plain silver lid with a circle containing tiny leaves around the edge, but the hallmark is sadly unreadable http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-1115
Not sure if any of this helps you to identify your jar, but I think it's clear it is a lidless dressing table jar. Would you agree?

Well done Leni! It wasn't too scary was it? :D
Nice pots as well. :)

Well done Leni! It wasn't too scary was it? :D
Well, I'm a bit of a technophobe, so it was a bit scary!   But I even started an album of my 'triffids'! :D
I wonder if any of the hobnail jars in this thread might link to the 'Percival or Davidson hobnail pattern' thread? :? Should we split it and link up? I have no idea which of the glasshouses made dressing table jars!

Tabatha, if you're still around, could you restore the photos please as they've all vanished now. You can add them directly to the board now (which we couldn't when you posted originally) or email them to me and I'll add them and sort the dead links out. Thanks. :)
