Title: Signed frosted glass bowl, marked as Holmegaard, but I dont think it is
Post by: jonchellycain on October 07, 2011, 11:25:16 AM
Hi all
Now I havent bought this (yet) I found it this morning and quite liked it but it is expensive.
They have put on the ticket that it is Holmegaard but I am not so sure. Does anybody know the piece or the pattern.
The mark on the base is almost impossible to see/read let alone get a picture of.
The first word is quite long and It does appear to start with a H, possibly He at the end is what looks like W.J seperate from the first word.
It is around 20cm in diameter, frosted on the outside. The signiture is actually on the polished pontil to the outer edge.
many thanks
michelle

I'm having trouble with your links - they flash the image briefly, then I get a big red rectangle, with nothing in it.

Don't recognise it but the way you describe the signature it might be Hadelands Glasvaerk WJ=Willy Johanssen? Just a hunch.

Definately Hadeland Willy Johanssen, mark is still very hard to get a clear shot of as it is very light and fine. Just the pattern name and date to find now  ;)
Its a real difficult one to get a really good shot of.
weighs 1.5kgs, 22cm in diameter, 12cm tall
Last 10 pictures in the album

Hi Michelle.  :hi:  Hows things??  :sun:
What a super bowl!  A little talc rubbed on the signature will make it much easier to photograph.....and when you have a moment, Please can you put the picture on here permanently,  not just as a link.  ;D  (Just in case)

Im much better thanks Rosie, should be going back to work in 2 weeks (as long as all my tests come back ok next week)
I am afraid the art of putting pictures onto GMB has somewhat passed me by, no matter how many times i read the section on it and try to add them it never works  , plus lots of people have tried in vain on here to tell me how to do (I do worry they will all get really annoyed with me if i ask again :help:). I think I did manage it at one point but I had to put the setting on my camera down to about 2MP and by that point the image was terrible.
I am utterly useless with computers I am afraid, if ever jon disappeared I would be completly stuck the first time something went wrong and that would be it, never to be seen online again.
michelle

P.S could one of the mods change the title for me to something like 'Hadeland Bowl by Willy Johanssen, unknown pattern' Thank you

He he!  I just email the picture to myself, then save it in documents, then when you click on the upload tab here, all your pictures come up in a box and you ust double click on the one you want to upload.  Simples....but I had to work it out for myself!!  It seems that when you post the picture to yourself, it automatically reduces the size......I hate picasa, but we have got it, so I suppose we will stay with it.  But that's what I do anyway....hope it helps you.

 :X: for your results.  :kissy:

What picture editing software have you got on your 'puter? Or rather what do you use? If I can help, I'll write you a tutorial.

Good photograph, well done! Congratulations on your latest acquisition - I love a happy end.

p.s. if you have office/ word/ excel etc. just right click the image and say open with picture editor. It has a button for resizing which is fool proof - you can choose document, web or e-mail - choose web. Then save as.... and Robert is your father's brother.

ok I will start from the begining
Kodak easyshare z1285 camera
Insert the card into the computer thing
box comes up autoplay SD (E),I click 'one touch to your digital pictures, using kodak software'
next box transfer all
Then it displays all the pictures on the kodak easyshare software page
From there i generally click on the pictures and click edit and crop to how i want them. Thats all my knowledge on how to tinker with photo's

Hi Michelle, I have started to add a picture to the thread because one or two were complaining about having to open links Picasa is good some great features and easy to use.

Choose the photo you want to add to thread and right click on it, from the drop down box choose 'copy image location' and left click. go to the thread and click on reply or modify if it's still open, choose the bottom left box from the 20 boxes above the 'smilies it will say insert image if you left click on it img img will appear in the post right click in between them and a drop box will appear click on paste and voila!!
Write it down and practice it a couple of times honestly it's simple a bit like me.

Well done but there must be an option to resize. Can you email me me a screenshot (Jon perhaps?) of what you see when you've opened any old picture in the software or tell me what version of the software you have.

Repeat after me I am not dumb. I am not numb. And you're not. Your brain is just not wired like everyone else's. Your fix is fine. I'll let you know if I need more info.  :kissy:

I like the " Your brain is just not wired like EVERYONE ELSE'S"  :24:
I swear it is just a complete and utter block when it comes to computers, no matter how simply its explained to me I just dont get it  :huh2:. Its like your talking in a completly different language and the words make no sense at all. Then I just get angry with the stupid thing :grrr:.
Its the exact same thing with the latest replacement for the NVQ at work, ive done my job for 14 years, I know what to do, when to do it, how to do, where to do...... but I just cannot write it down and explain it.
thanks so much Christine for taking time out to try and help me, and everybody else on GMB. Its is much more apreciated than you all could ever know

It's true. There are so many people out there who are convinced they are stupid when they are not. They just can't learn things in the same way as the majority and that's where our wonderful education system falls down and always has done. They are the people that find other ways of doing things and develop strategies for coping.  Intelligence varies dramatically and there are plenty of less intelligent people, don't get me wrong, but the people who aren't stupid are generally the ones who tell you they are.

Well done on the bowl - it's wonderfull!
Christine's wonderful at writing easy to read, understand and follow sets of instructions, Michelle - I've been on the recieving end of them - and she has a lovely patient way of not making you feel bad about not understanding - as I'm sure you can see.

she is taking me through step by step, fingers crossed should work out OK.
Ive worked out why I managed to get them photo's on earlier, my camera was on 1.2MP which is why the photos came out so bad too. will have to re-do them all in 12MP hopefully will get a better shot of the mark on the base that way too.

cheers
michelle

Sounds like we could all do with one of Christine's tutorials!!   :help: How about a 'Computer Literacy Weekend' for a group of us?  We could hold it somewhere central and learn how to do some of the things (like posting pictures) that some of us find difficult?
Are you up for it anyone? Christine?  ;D

It's not actually intuitively obvious how to do these things, Michelle. Lots of people have problems with the resizing issue, especially now that image file sizes are getting so big. Fantastic that you've got it now though!
