Just bought this pair this morning. Only 3.25" high! (can't understand why they would be made so small). Thick walled with deep well base. Internal ribbing. They look Czech and I wondered what anyone else thought (Marcus, Adam ?). I'm sure I've seen a much larger version somewhere.

Many thanks :P

Hi,
Your supposition is, to the best of my knowledge, correct, though as yet, I have not managed to identify the manufacturer or designer. I'd be inclined to think any of the works that became Sklo Union, but the design might date to late 1930's/early 1940's. The height, of 3.5 inches is quite a common aspect of Czechoslovakian production.
regards,
Marcus

Many thanks for the confirmation Marcus :P , and I've learnt something new too 8)
Hopefully I'll be able to find an attribution in time. (Usually stumbled across more by accident than design  )

I have a few of these and always thought Sklo Union.. they sometimes get listed on UK ebay as Victorian eyebaths ::)
Regards and happy new year to everyone. Paul

The fact that I never seen this piece here in Czech republic but always at UK ebay only, gives me some doubts about its Czech origin.

They are quite well made Jindrich so if not Sklo Union maybe they could be Germanic... on examination
they do fit the eye sockets so maybe eyebaths are a possibility but the reservoir is very large. Regards Paul.

I have six of these little winged vases. I wouldn't mind any help identifying them and maybe one of the member knows how many shades they come in. as you can see from the picture. i have managed to collect 6 different shades.

Very nice vases (and collection)!
But I don't think that these are Czech...
Sorry, can't help you further.

These have definitely come up before, and I know I hand wrote a pencilled correction to either Marcus Newhall's book or Mark Hill's. Unfortunately I've managed to pack those books away so can't check, but the discussion must be somewhere on the board.

In Ceramika i Szkło Polskie XX Wieku: Katalog zbiorów Muzeum Narodowego we Wrocławiu, a small pressed vase designed by Eryka Trzewik-Drost for Ząbkowice in 1970 is described as being "with furrows and a bulge on opposite sides". Unfortunately, there is no supporting photograph and the size is 'off' at 9,8cm. It's also described as being more cylindrical in form.

Well done, Anik! I couldn't find that for the life of me. That description is intriguing - hopefully one with a label will turn up one day.
