Title: Is this candelabra Salviati latticino?
Post by: heartofsklo on October 11, 2011, 03:14:32 PM
Stunning looking piece with gold flecks throughout the clearer glass, I am guessing Murano. Measures 17cm tall and 22cm at its widest point. Base has a pontil scar but cannot see any other marks.

It looks like a very fine piece.  Kind of reminds me of Barovier, but I'm sure the Murano experts will give you proper information. :D

Thanks Max. Should I post it in the Murano section also if I may get more specific advice?

Thanks flying free, I had to have it when I saw it. It is not especially heavy.

That bright red makes me think of Seguso. Both Seguso VdA and Archimede did things like this. I don't know if it is their work, but I would keep them in the running until you find out who made it.

I don't see any Latticino in the piece.  Latticino consists of twisted canes that form a lattice.  What you have on the "gold" bits is a glass rod with evenly spaced raised ribs, that has then been twisted so the ribs in certain [places look like a lattice but are in fact not.

As an exercise, I have written to Barovier, Seguso and Salviati as they may well be able to help. I am not sure they will be able to, if I get any responses with specific info I will post back of course.

What do you think of the similarity of the candle holders sections to this? It's labelled for Barovier & Toso (torn label looks genuine).
