Title: Beautiful Pair of Green Candlesticks - Venetian? Murano? Latticino or Filigrana?
Post by: Patti3435 on October 11, 2011, 10:31:30 PM
Hi. Can anyone confirm for me if I am on the right track in guessing these are Italian? They stand 8 3/4" tall and weigh 14 ozs each. Thank you!

These look like molded air twist candlesticks to me. My first guess would not be Venetian. I hope some of our British or American glass people will have an idea.

Correct - not very likely Venetian. These are very high quality and it takes a skilled glassworks to make air twist like that. Names that spring up are Holmegaard, Steuben, Leerdam and Villeroy&Boch - just as a starter, there may be others...

Thank you all. Any suggestions on how to further find out the maker? Should I change the title here? Put it under a different category? Any help is much appreciated.

OK, they do fluoresce under the UV light.

Should you draw a blank, eventually, with an attribution for these, you may care to try the V. & A. in London.    They advise there is usually a variable waiting time for their replies, but are reliable, and can be contacted on   Ceramics and Glass Collection <ceramicsandglass AT vam DOT ac DOT uk>;    of course, they don't guarantee a successful attribution, bu you never know. :)

Hi. Posted this a while ago on the Italian Glass thread thinking these were Venetian. Was told probably more like Holmegaard, Steuben, Leerdam or Villeroy & Boch. Someone suggested that I send a message to the V & A museum which I did, but have not heard back yet. Was hoping someone here might be able to help me identify these? Thanks very much any help provided.

Mod: Hi Patti, I have merged your latest post out of the British & Irish forum to be a continuation of your original thread, which had already been moved from the Murano forum to the general Glass forum. I have also removed the duplicate set of images that you had reposted in that latest post.

This post will act as a bump so that people get a fresh look at the thread. :)
