Managed to pick up what I think is a Sklo Union 'Face' vase, but I don't have access to my books right now. I seem to remember they came in all-clear glass, and frosted with clear highlights - this one appears to be the latter. Can anyone confirm, please? Also who was the designer - was it Matura or Jurnickl?
-
FABULOUS!!!! Adolf Matura: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,38213.0.html

Thanks Anik - my memory was a little hazy on this, but I bought it on instinct. Looks like I've joined the 'Face' vase club! ;D

   Jammy so and so! From Holland?

:bsh: so unfair - I begrudgingly offer my congratulations nevertheless :hiclp:

Called a head vase rather than face vase though I think David? But still a fab find! I was amazed how heavy these are when I picked one up. I prefer the clear to the frosted effect, but they are both seriously    making though! Congrats! :rah:

Yup, in Haarlem. Surprising what I've found over here - even some very rare pieces of Chance!
Can the title of this thread be amended to 'Head' then please? I was thinking of Dartington's 'Ugly' vase, which I think is referred to as a 'Face vase' sometimes?
-
A great buy David. These are still fairly scarce in my experience and are certainly iconic. I wish I had one.... (GMB member Jindra has a rare head plate in this pattern too I think.... somewhere in his collection!) This vase is a classic find, amongst all the CZ post war pressed glass, I think these (and a few other major designs) will retain their interest for collectors indefinitely, above most other pieces out there,

That's gorgeous...so jealous of you and Anik  and well done :hiclp:

I would dearly love to see the head plate as well, if Jindrich looks in.
-
He posted it the other thread

Oops... Frank beat me to it. The 'head' is a very subtle design when it comes to the plate. You could miss it if you blink. :kissy:
-
Ahhh Jindrich said bowl there, which is why I thought there was another plate shape... my bad.

Almost like the vase was too hot coming out of the mould and spread out...
-
Exactly, when still hot and plastic un-moulded.

I should be more confidant, thanks for confirming Jindrich.
