Title: Bimini style stem, any thoughts on maker? ID = Swingewood for Stevens & Williams
Post by: Catisfaction on October 16, 2011, 09:14:33 PM
I found this locally near Seattle, I have absolutely no clue about who might have made it. Turning to the board for thoughts and suggestions.

I can't even think of any good words to google with other than Bimini style.

The furthest I've got is to realise that these dogs look like hunting hounds.

Well, after reading through that thread and checking out the referenced book and then not finding a single historical sale to compare a price to, the verdict is that this one gets added to my British Glass collection yay!

Thanks for the help :)

HI Peter
can you tell us anymore about this glass or Vernay?  I found that when searching for my 'adjusted' pieces but couldnt' find any information on Vernay at all.
I wondered if it had been specially inscribed for Vernay (whatever or whoever they were).

Vernay almost sounds like the name of a liquor.

Peter et al — I found the mark on the base of that Repeal Goblet most interesting.   From memory it looks to me the same font and layout of lettering as the mark on my 1938 S&W/RB Raybould tazza, see here (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,2652.msg19891.html#msg19891).

As you will see, I promised photographs just over six years ago, so perhaps I better take some, once I've found it!  :spls:

Note that Roger Dodsworth of Broadfield House Glass Museum has seen my tazza.   The mark was new to him — he was unable to add any information.

Peter et al — Here's the mark on my Raybould tazza.   Apologies for the poor quality of the photo — and this is the best of a grim bunch!   However there is enough there for you to see the similarity of the lettering with that on the Repeal Glass mark.

I like to see two or three separate and independent items of evidence for an attribution.   In my opinion this match of the lettering font of the two marks is just such extra evidence.

BTW Thanks for clearing up a mystery of over six years from the previous GMB — see here (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,1587.msg10371.html#msg10371)!   I wasn't so far off then, was I?
