Any ideas where this might have originated from please? My guess is may be German :ooh:.
Narrow elliptical shape with vertical ribs one side and horizontal ribs on the other, giving an optical illusion of small squares. Quite old(ish) with lots of wear on fire polished base.
TIA ;D

I think that one might be Polish. I'm sure it has been on the board before.
I'll have a quick look to see if I can find the link.
It's very beautiful!

Interesting vase, lovely effect... but in my over 13 years of living in Poland, I don't think I have ever come across it here. :-\

My Mum bought this style in turquoise colourway. It's a really effective style but I'm 99% certain it's modern. I also saw one at Detling with David Encill which was being sold as Czech.

Thanks for your help folks ;)
Your turquoise version sounds much nicer Max.

Sorry Anne, I was thinking of the Drost vase.

It has some similarities in style to pieces by Ingrid Glas, but I haven't seen this particular pattern before. Germany is certainly a possibility.
