Title: Newby Is this Murano?
Post by: lincolnsvalentine on October 21, 2011, 05:08:09 AM
Just picked this up today, it was set up with a lamp (the hardware screams 1950-1960's) Took it apart to clean and refinish hardware, thought I would send pics of the glass and see what it might be? Found a couple similar on internet reported to be by Segosa??? Dont know anything about Murano this is my first purchase. What do you highly trained eyes think? It has small bubbles in it, definitely hand blown.

Hi and welcome to the board  :sun:
I can't help with your query but I'm sure someone will be along soon who will be able to.  It is a stunning lampbase and looks like opalescent glass to me - very pretty indeed!  It would be nice to see pictures of the hardward as well as that may hold some clues possibly  :)

Not Seguso in my opinion. My first thoughts were 'generic' murano...

Not a bad thing, it just means identification will be a long time coming. Just my opinion but others will add to it... ;D

It looks like a vase that was modified to be a lamp by drilling a hole in the bottom. The glass reminds me of Fratelli Toso, though I couldn't find this exact design.
