Title: Glass Shades from W.A.S. Benson ?
Post by: albertbs on October 24, 2011, 09:56:11 AM
Hi ; Everyone .
I recently bought this chandelier with 3 beautiful tulip in vaseline. I tried to find any brand that I could give a definition of manufacture, but I did not find any matches, except a "T" marked on the central section where you can catch the 3 arms. I would be interested to know if there is someone that I can 'give some information on' origin of this chandelier.
I try with the UV lamp and the shades are True Vaseline Glass .
Thanks to all the Friends of the comunity

It's not Benson. I would like to see close-ups of the central hub and the top rose from two angles plus looking into it. Can you also post your images in the forum as Image Shack does not display them too well, timing out and images just not appearing... I could only get to 3 different images

I'm a little confused by the rock-climbing carabiner (the aluminium thing) being used to hold it up - I don't think it belongs - but it might be functional.

Hello , Sue .
The hook is only used to hold the chandelier that is hung. I put myself (but not part of the chandelier).
But honestly what you think of the chandelier? and glass? I want your very strange thoughts
thanks

Well if it was here in the U.S. it would be called from the "Arts & Crafts" period.

It could be Arts and Crafts and would probably then have been gas originally but has been converted probably in the 1920s to electricity. But as it is not very well made, I suspect it was manufactured cheaply c.1920 for one of the electrical wholesalers so the chances of finding a maker are close to zero.

 :hi:
I think it's very lovely - but I know very little about this period - it's mostly far too expensive for me!
I do think the shades look very similar to the scanned picture - but tulip-shaped shades are very popular and made by many makers.

Frank has a very good eye for this sort of thing, Alberto, lights and bulbs and fittings are a major interest he has - so I'd be confident in what he has said.

It is a wonderful, decorative and functional thing. I could live with it very happily (apart from the dusting) - but sadly, it isn't the right sort of thing for my sitting-room.

Sorry for teasing about the carabiner  :-[ - are you a rock-climber? My partner is - so I know a bit about his equipment - and I'm used to seeing it in odd places!

Hi , Sue .
Thanks for your help .
I am convinced is a lovely chandelier and moreover, complete with all its glass.
I think I put it in short sale.
