Title: Uranium Glass
Post by: petet63 on October 24, 2011, 12:51:51 PM
Hi, Im really having trouble posting today  :o. Hope i get through with this. Need help finding manufacturer of the two vases and the dish pictured. I have found the small vase (Sowerby). The Dish is 5cmm high with oval and lined decoration. The body is clear glass and the feet are showing Uranium content (or something ??) The vases are 20cm high and uranium. Thanks all. Pete

Answering my own post again..... The vases look like sowerby as well, registered pattern number 2684. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The 3 footed bowl still a problem. It looks too new for uranium and its not pressed.

Not all uranium glass is pressed and uranium glass is still being made, so nothing is too new to be uranium.  Your footed bowl I suspect is Czech and something like 1940s/50s, but I've not found a manufacturer yet (it also comes with slightly different engraving).

I don't think any of your vases are Sowerby, even the small one (that looks like Stoezle might be a better candidate). For a start the colour is wrong; Sowerby uranium glass is a yellowish green. The Sowerby 2684 is the bird panel vase discussed here http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,2818.0.html and when made by Sowerby wouldn't have been in uranium at that sort of date.

These plain vases are always difficult but if you have time to spare I suggest a root through http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/ and http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/index2.html

Next time please post one item per thread to keep things simple and I also suggest you use the boards attach facility rather than an external link as it keeps the picture with the thread for future reference.

Thanks very much. Gives me more to go on. It shows that you cant believe everything you see on the internet. I know its a minefield of info and hope to get better at identifying my pieces.

Please attach your pictures using the boards attach function. There is help on posting pictures here.
Your vases may be Walther Trafalgar

I was wrong about your small vase; it's a Sowerby 2631, though the colour looks wrong for Sowerby uranium. I didn't recognize it because it's out-turned rather than upright.
