Can anyone help me out with a date on this piece?
Any thoughts appreciated.

I think this is fairly recent Egyptian glass.

Thanks Ivo. Can I ask what it is about the glass that leads you to this conclusion?
Would be good to know for future reference.

Hi,
Your right about the piece being early.
I feel very strongly that it's late 18th to early 19th century
English pattern molded glass. The form was from that time
era. A good percentage of the pieces had a expanded diamond pattern.
Your example looks to have a swirled pattern made in a
dip mold then free blown to expand the glass. The foot
and handle where applied. There are very similar examples
that were produced in the states and a few of the northern European country's during the same time period. Sometimes it can be difficult to determine which area a piece is from. Slight variations in form and
glass type will help with most determinations. It's a very nice early piece and probably for the most part early English manufacture.

Many thanks for this, Greg. Your description is definitely consistent with the way the piece is constructed - and, from the limited research I've been able to do elsewhere, the jug certainly looks very similar to other pieces I've found dated in or around 1800.
I was beginning to have doubts, so I very much appreciate your taking the trouble to clarify.
