Hi, have not been able to find a match for this vase. its triangular and textured and has a polished out pontil mark on looks like a flat polished base which has some sustantial ware scratches ? but can just see a small section of the polished base. Its just under 10 inches tall with the triangle at the top of 4.5 inches and the base triangle 3 inch.It also looks cased more so at the base. Was leaning towards Finnish but not sure.
Many thanks

Looks German or Austrian to me.
Have you looked at the Whitefriars pretenders website?

Hi, yes checked the W/F site but did not see anything, i will revisit the site as i might have missed a lead.
Many thanks

I'd agree with German or Austrian, maybe more likely Oberglas of Austria than Ingrid of Germany, as Ingrid tent to have flat rims. Japan could be another possibility.

I have never seen any cased-in-clear pieces from Oberglas, so I would rather guess another origin...

Here's one cased in clear that was ID'd as Oberglas:

Thanks for the link, Wayne -- good point there :)
I had seen that thread some time ago, but I thought that now these are believed to be of Japanese origin?
I have one as well: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,39531.0.html (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,39531.0.html)
Well, everything is possible; but I have not seen anything remotely similar from Oberglas (and I see loads of labeled Oberglas here in Vienna)
Anyway, the two-coloured ones like mine seem to have a totally different base finish than the red vase in this thread...

Thanks for your link too Michael, I hadn't seen that one. I'm sure there are more makers of bark vases that we're not aware of yet, it seems everyone was doing it at some point! ;)

Agree with Wayne that Japan should be considered. The texture on the piece reminds of the squares that have been shown here with the 'foreign' label. Can't remember if I have seen one of this shape pop up on ebay Australia though, as a lot of Japanese glass is listed here, in the Murano section of course...LOL...
