I recently bought these 2 swans without labels or signed hoping they were murano. To my untrained eye they look well made with no bubbles I can see and the bottoms are ground and polished nicely. They are heavy with the largest one about 18 inches tall and the smaller one 13 inches tall I'm hoping someone can id them and also give me an idea of value just so I know if I spent to much for them. Thanks for any help you can give me.
-
Hi mc, close ups of the eyes would be good....at the moment, your pictures could do with going up to the maximum size to help see more detail.
I was thinking of Seguso, but the eyes are different to those I have seen, and at one time Ikea did some of these in pairs, but I haven't found an example yet......sublime to the ridiculous you might think, but I will keep looking and get back if I find anything more certain.
Rosie.

I sure hope these aren't from Ikea I"ll be really upset with myself, because I thought they were alot better than something from Ikea. I do have some larger pictures on the fossilfly forum I posted a couple of days ago I have better luck posting pictures there without resizing than I do here. But I am posting a picture of the eyes on both of them.
-
They are very beautiful and I really hope they are Seguso........I will keep looking.....I rarely give up, especially on birds and nimals, just sometimes it takesa while. However, it is 1am now. so I had better get some sleep....

I have looked at some others on the internet that are murano but they were signed and I think the eyes may of been different didn't seem to have the circle around the eyes but I keep telling myself the pictures weren't that good showing the eyes. I'm hoping they are at least from sweden and not china. Thanks for your imput.

I believe they are Formia swans (or cygni). Here is a link to one: http://www.polyvore.com/formia_murano_glass_swan_v46134bm/thing?id=9059038. Fingers crossed that it is right. The serious Formia birds are very nice.

Formia is still selling the swans. I found them in their Liriche collection at http://www.formiaglass.it/. The Formia site has become difficult to use. You have to get past the introduction page and open the menu. Click Liriche and scroll down the items on the right side of the page. Alas, they don't have the sizes, which is what I most wanted to find. The white swans have the lines, but you have to look close to get past the bright white.
Added: I found a pair of Formia swans with a different decor, but of the same design. The ones at this site are only 14" and 11" tall. I wonder if they were made in different sizes or if it is a different company. This is a good one for researcher Rosie. The link to the swans is http://www.murano-crystal-chandelier-italian-blown-art-glass.com/contents/en-us/p877_Italian_Glass_Feather_Swan_Figurines.html. It is the site of one of our members.

Oh, well. I found some other Formia swans online and their eyes were different. Back to the drawing board.
-
Thanks everyone for your help. I have looked at the sites you posted and one thing I don't see on them is the curl on the tail that these have. I posted a picture of one of the tails they are both the same. Again thanks.
-
I hope this is a better picture of the tail I was afraid the bowl behind might be in the way.
-
After spending 3 1/2 hours on the internet looking at glass swans I myself think they are murano. I did find one pair of seguso the eyes looked the same and the tail did have a curl to, but they were green inside and the back had more of an arch. Found white ones like mine but none had the curl at the tail, which I actually like better. Anyway I'm happy with them, which is what really counts. Thanks everyone for your help.

I think they are quality Murano mc, and I am sure we will come up with an answer....trouble with hand made hot worked glass, is that every piece is unique, so although there may be some similarities, there will also be variations.
I bet one of us will come across the answer just as we are looking for something else!

Thanks for all your help Rosie on my swans and the 2 fish I also have posted that say FM Ronneby Sweden and Marcolin Sweden. I paid $130.00 for the swans and $80.00 for the 2 fish, so I'm feeling better on the prices I paid. Thanks again.

Hi, my name is Cheryl and I live in Napa Valley California wine capital of the US. I just started collecting glass in the last year only at thrift stores and garage sales and estate sales. It's amazing how much I already have living in a town of no more than 100,000 people, but it is fun. These were my most expensive pieces to date I got them at a thrift store if fact I just got a 11 inch giraffe today for $10.00 I don't think it is murano, but I liked it. Actually I collect alot of things my grand daughters think my house is like a museum. I'm retired so I have the time now to do what I love.
-
Oh Cheryl, do please post a picture of the giraffe.....I love glass animals! PLEASE, I would love to see it.

Lovely Giraffe Cheryl, thank you for sharing that....aren't the markings cleverly done?

Do you ever get to go to the Arizona Gemstone Fairs?
Sorry if we have :hj: this thread, but as it is yours anyway, I don't suppose you will mind. PM me about all this if you like....in the meantime, I will try to find the thread that I put on here a few years ago that will give you a chuckle!!
Rosie.
Added: Here it is....it goes off on a tangent and was more a Café type blog, but I think you will appreciate the thread....enjoy!!

That's funny that for some reason I decided to show you of all people my collection. I have gave my neighbor who goes to the show, money and told him what to buy for me. I have a disabled son who lives with me so I always have to count on my daughter to come stay with him, and since I buy most of it at thrift stores and garage sales I haven't went yet. Alot of people don't know what they have, so sell it cheap. I'm sending you a few more pictures of crystals I have. The one in the last picture is a quartz crystal cluster it's 2 1/2 feet long with hundreds of crystals, but only paid $200.00 for it.
-
That is one spectacular collection Cheryl.....I am in awe! You really must get some Dartington Ring holders for your eggs and sphere's though, they don't like being on plastic or metal. I can always look out for them on UK eBay for you if you want me to....I have some carved quartz crystal bases for some of the spheres and a couple of wooden ones as well.
Do you feel energy from them when you are near your crystals?
Oh heck, lets have this conversation on pm, it would be much easier.......over to you!
Rosie. :sun:
-
Thanks Rosie, I took your advice and replaced the one egg onto wood and 2 of my sphere's on to wood. I had never heard about not putting them on metal before. I am off to babysit this evening at my son's house.
-
I forgot to ask you what it is you do with crystals.
