Title: Assortment of pulegoso or bollicine pieces.

I'm always confused by who makes these pieces or the difference between pulegoso and bollicine.  Anyhoo, here are a few that I have.  There is no point in asking any questions.

I'm pretty sure the white and the green ones are not Murano, but there's a possibility the blue one might be.  The white one is remarkably close to a piece I have, which I've been leaning towards calling Mexican. I seem to remember that you're in the UK. Is there any Mexican glass turning up there?

No, I live in the states.  I think that the blue one might be from Murano as well.  There is a book at the city library that I saw a photo of an early Scarpa piece of the same form, but in green.  It was labeled in the book as a prototype for later pieces, circa 1930's. The book is called Art glass from Murano 1910-1970 = Glas-Kunst aus Murano 1910-1970, by Marc Heiremans, 1993.  It's a very expensive book, but maybe someone in the forum owns it.

I don't know about the other pieces.  I picked them up cheaply just to have a small collection to display.

I don't have the Heiremans book, but I do have a Scarpa book.  The blue one is close to model 38 in the Scarpa book, but that piece has a foot and the ends of the bowl are folded slightly upwards as well as the sides. If it were Venini and Scarpa, it would be marked, although the acid stencil mark is often very faint.

A bollicine was made by adding potassium nitrate to the glass, which creates fine, carbon dioxide bubbles. Pulegoso had much rougher bubbles.  I've read that pulegoso was made by adding kerosene, but I've also read that it was sodium carbonate that was added.

Here's an example of what I think is a Scarpa "submerged a bollicine" I have. Not great pictures but you get the idea.

It's too bad we can't pot photos from books in the forum.  I live just several city blocks from the library.

i think this is the one - the neck is longer but the finish is the same.
